Yep, guilty! :p  Glad you came over and welcome to the thread! And you can bombard with updates and questions us all you want, us lot can talk the hind legs off a donkey and not all about hatching either! LOL

Yea. The first time I tried I candled a lot. The second I only candled at day 7, 14 and when they went to lot down on day 19. Seemed to have a lot better out come.
Haha. Yes haven't heard that saying in a loooong time! I was born in the US but moved here when I was 15! Anyway I'm not planning to candle every egg at every turn. In fact what I do is just take one out to candle and close the lid the best way I can and I just have it out for a minute. So shouldn't effect it!
I've just made a chart guided by the one you all have on pg 1. But I've added a few extras to it. So as I'm on day 4 I'm going to start this charting business as with 34 eggs in the bator it can be confusing! Those shipped egg air cells are so different compared to the ones from home! But I will say that when I first got them I candelled them and they were pretty much all over the place. I then let them be for a couple of days upright and we now have attached large air cells. But they aren't really moving away like they were to start with! I have to say, it's really hard to incubate let alone shipped ones. My last lot were all shipped the entire 24 and lost all of them! But this time most of them are from home!

ugg... I went down to the barn because I forgot to give the ducks more water and I found my beautiful dark brahma rooster Alexander as a bloody mess. Him and the brahma cross rooster must have gotten into a fight. His beautiful white feathers are stained with red and his face is bloody, hot, and swollen. His beak is cracked in multiple places and he can't eat. He couldn't even eat his favorite treat, cheese. I used at least a third of a tube of antibiotic ointment on his face and wattles. Oh what to do... he looks so pitiful...
This happened to me(mine didn't get a cracked beak though) and they were both about dead and still fighting when I found them. I didn't think there was any hope left for either of them. It was awful, but with time and separation, both are back to their healthy selves! Good Luck with him!!!

Quick update from broody: she hatched a chick yesterday and I hatched 3 so far in the incubator. I went and slipped the first one under her yesterday evening. She took it from my hand and tucked it under her wing, too cute! When I checked on her now I could feel at least 2 chicks under her, but I think there may be more by now. I'm going to give her the last 2 incubator chicks a bit later. I don't want to bother her too much as she's a bit skittish.
I have been toying with this idea, but I'm afraid the other chickens will kill the chicks, or that the chicks will get out. I worry too much don't I?? My Brownie is seriously broody now for 2 weeks. I've never had a LF broody before, so not clear on the workings.

Yes. Live in the Fens of Cambridgeshire. Another words there are Bulls in a field opposite my house and views of more fields for miles. Nearest grocery shop is 9.8 miles away!

Welcome!!! Oh and it took me three shipped egg hatches before I figured out to number the top of the eggs! ;) much easier to keep track of when your charting!

Thanks MommaBe, I've got that one sorted before they went in. Actually there is one egg that is interesting its Greeny Blue in colour. Hoping that one will work out. And even better if it were a hen! Can't believe they only sent me 1 of those they are rare here!

BLACK Betty update, picked her up she growled, stayed flat as a pancake too!

I looked at 4 eggs while holding her and saw nottat! she was due to give birth today. I forgot to tell her she is only allowed 21 days!

seriously though, I will candle them tonight when kids leave for sure!
I picked an egg up and it felt EXTREMELY light so I am a tad worried as to what's going on in there.

Sumi how about yours? I think she was on nest a day or two before betty??

Quote: please tell me you are kidding !?!? i had bantam ones before... and these were way smaller than the production red chicks the same age .... now i am praying they are bantam lol
I AM NOT EVEN CLOSE TO KIDDING, why do you think I sold EVERY DARK BRAHMA and Jersey GIANT I OWNED????

Yes, I talked to her about it, and hers are walking now. It just seems so pathetic that my brain keeps thinking, how can it possibly go from scooting its face across the floor to walking on its own? Another issue is food, I can get it to drink, but not eat. Soon it will starve. Right now it's fluffy and healthy looking.
Y cant it get to food? sprinkle some for it

I sit it in an entire bowl of crumble and nothing, it cries. It hasn't stopped crying! The chick I had booted's toes are straight now, so I removed the boots. It flops on its back constantly (did that with the boots too). It's not eating much either.

bubba wouldn't shut up either, but giver her time, do you have any of that growgel? its cheap on ebay you should get some and keep it handy it lasts forever if you only use a pinch at a time!
