Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

Just had to rescue a chick from my broody. The chick pipped and mom accidentally crushed the egg with her breastbone. Which meant the chick couldn't zip and was trapped by the drying membrane. When I found it now the exposed fluff was already dry and the membrane was leathery. I brought the frantic chick inside and removed the bits of shell and tore the membrane off so she can get out. She's in the brooder now, complaining about her bumpy hatch. I just wanted to let you know about this, it doesn't happen often, but keep an eye out when your hens' chicks start hatching, just in case. I've lost a chick this way before. With this new baby the total hatched is 5. I removed more eggs from the broody and put them in the incubator and when I candled I could see one starting to pip internally. I got another malpositioned one in the incubator that I'm a bit worried about. It's weak and not ready to come out yet. I'm hoping it will hang on 'till tomorrow morning.
Oh and dont forget to talk your broody gal..... tell her

“The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it.”

I weighed my duck eggs last night (day 9) a couple are spot on with weight loss and the other 6-7 are about .5-1 g off. So is that enough to lower my humidity a bit?

I wouldnt lower too much, try just a tad until you weigh again. sounds like your running great! what is next weigh date? I forget what days your to weigh, is it 7 10 14 18?
also you could weight the entire rack to get your average instead of each egg from what I read.

Oz how do you weigh? racks right?
