Oh just random news, in about an hour I am getting some fish! I've saved up to get a really cool 10 gallon tank and a koi, goldfish, and a few others. I also have a separate bowl for a beta fish ^.^ I'm so excited!

Out of interest how long before hens start laying?

What breed? My EEs started laying at 8-9 months while my others started at 6. I have heard people say as early as 16 weeks but that was not the case for us.

cool your jets i am not arguing with you. i was creating an argument for the use of the bator. and i never implied you are an idiot. your bator is grreat there are thousands of people out there without the knowledge and experience you have - and all the money they can afford tied up in their styro bators. Insight into maximizing the use of them is all I was offering. peace and here is my home made bator and by the way -comparative knowledge is best transferred in debate. I could post a whole diatribe on the down side of a styro bator but where would the fun be in doing what everyone else does.

There you go using my favorite saying again...whipper snappers! I thank you for your post , I'm waiting for my genesis in the mail right now and I was sweating a lil til you chimed in. I didn't know bags of water would help absorb temp spikes, so I learned something. Nobody should take anything too seriously and I've learned a lot from people's debates on here. Also do you know what Sally was talking about with pennies in the water wells or something to that affect? I love that bator by the way! Is that a display case & how deep is it?

Yay! Fish can be just as addicting as chickens, hehe.

But please don't put koi in a 10 gallon tank, they get WAY too big. Some of mine are 2 feet long and over 20 years old. If you put them in a 10 gallon, either they will out grow it, or their growth will be stunted causing a very early death. PM me if you want more information. The best fish for a 10 gallon tank would be fan-tail goldfish.

Congratulations. I love fish and invested quite a bit of time in them myself. Watch that koi, they are jumpers.

A few of my LF cochin hens didn't start laying until they were about 14 months!
