I see a lot of yellow goo around the sides could his yolk sack have ruptured inside? If thats just ointment r something just ignore me.

No not ignoring you! That's possible. I would think yolk would be more yellow. This looks like clear fluid. I am going slow. Mainly because I'm kinda freaking out. I know it's just a dumb chicken but I feel so responsible! My last egg of the season...

Is its head supposed to look like that. It's still breathing. And no Sally it's mouth is not always open but its like that a lot. This chick looks like what is imagine a day 18 chick to look like.

Whatever happens just please try not to feel to bad about it, these things happen to absaloutly everyone there is just some that you cant save.

straighten his head out with its spine, and look down in the egg shell, if you dont see yolk, break shell away as you head down to his belly area. and your doing fine, your not mucking it up, that's why we are all hangin to help each other silly!

try to dry his head and mouth with dry ptowel
Head is free and out, I looked down and I see yolk, so it is back in the cup in the bator.

Just a sec and I will post pics from every dang angle.

Quote: If he is hanging on this long its a good sign though but with big wet chicks you never know what will happen.
Did you clear all the fluid at its head and dry it and its beak and such is free from fluid, even wet towel?

The blood is not as bad as the flash makes it look. The last pic was taken with no flash.

I think it is just not ready. I don't know if it will make it but there is nothing more I can do now that I know of. Unless you think I should position it differently.
I think that it was a 10-14+ day old egg. I think it might have an issue or just be way behind the others. I think I have done the best I can. I am going to try not to feel guilty if it does't work out. It is breathing fine in it's cup. I guess what I need to know is how long does yolk take to soak up and the cord to close off? And will it's head be ok? That sure seems lop sided.

Thank you guys! I am not sure I would have had the guts to get its head free with out y'all.

do you have his head straight with his spine? or does it keep flopping curling back?

Quote: no as long as he is in a cup and he seems not too overly active he should be ok as is, I asked about the neck spine straightness because I don't want you to have a chick that is in a stuck position for so long and cause issues later. usually when you help the head out they don't look as curled up as he does, let me see if I have a pic of what he should look like laying on his side to give you an idea of what I mean... brb
