Quote: I was joking about blow drying, but I hear you can. Very low heat setting and hold your hand over the chick so you can check the temp. If I need to dry a chick I wipe as much of the moisture off as I can with tissue paper/toilet paper and then place it in a warm spot, like under a heat lamp. If you can at least get the worst gunk off so it can move freely it would be good. Don't worry about the rest now.

Oh yes. This is my new hobby. I pick things up quick. I'm going to make a load of sign Cardy type things to display in shops and do some little ads once my first eggs hatch. I am hoping to do some preorders too and maybe incubate for some people too. When it comes to after they hatch I have loads of helpers!!

Going to take some fun themed pictures so that I can make some nice designer cards too. You all have me the idea!! Lol
Chickens seem to go like crazy here. So I want to do things a little more designer. Like breed different and rare types. and perhaps make little kits to go home with them. Chick treats and food and I could probably get hold of some cheap ish food and water chick dishes to help out new owners. I'm also looking at doing a reserve list for people that want a specific breed that would go towards their chicks! I'm only going to do this small scale. But a lot more than I would keep myself. I only have 7 chickens here and two are Roos. And eventually I am hoping to rent a little land round the corner from me as I live in very much farming area. So just going to upscale a hobby. I've been dying to do for years!! I have done this with reptiles but it was so costly with the amount of tanks and heating and food that was needed. A lot more than what it costs to keep chickens and at least they rewards us with delicious eggs! But I'm also thinking of raising chicks 70 percent organic, or as possible. We consume around 90 percent organic and all free range at home so I think I may do this for the Chooks too!
The one thing I'm on the look for is chicken vaccine I know I have to buy it bulk but its trying to find a supplier is almost impossible. I'm going to have to phone some hatcheries I think to see if I could purchase from them.

And I have to go make dough for dinner. See you all in a bit...

Thursday's day 7 , but went and candled 2 eggs to to check development. Both eggs had the nice 2 black peas in there and veins forming. So far all good!

Sheesh! Over 100 posts since I was on last night. Glad you got your chick out. Hopefully after fighting all this time it has a little more fight to make it thru today and starts eating and drinking.

Yay for all the other eggs that are doing good.

Now I need to go and be productive...

MommaBee, if you are like me and like chicken names in different languages, I would call him Kekoanu, which means "Powerful Fighter" in Japanese. Your little chicky really is a fighter. When he gets dried off, please post pics!

I do! We named our first backwards pipper Ajani- African for survivor I think. And we had one hatch out of a box of smashed eggs. It hatched alone. It's name is Ryo, Japanese for lone survivor. I am hatching a few of these for some friends. If its a hen one gal already claimed this special one... If it makes it. Not sure right now. All that work, haha. I might just name it for her though. I have earned that right?
