I hate to say it, but as usual OZ is correct.

HOWEVER.... (oz you knew I would have the however right?) I just discussed this with MommaB in PM, I think if you want to incubate you have to be prepared to do this stuff... There is NO good way to explain it either, it is what it is, either you can do it or call a friend or neighbor. At some point EVERYONE will have a major deformed chick and will have to take care of it. What is worse is putting it in a bag and just throwing it out or trying to suffocate it. Get it done and over with!

You can do it in a plastic bag laid out on the table or something. Gently roll the chick in the paper towel long wise, yes its head too, find its neck and snip as fast as you can with a scissors or I use a (of all things) deboning scissors. No lifting looking at it or anything its a done deal roll up the bag and go bury it. It IS THE FASTEST safest way to cull a chick.

Ya, I kinda figured. I'm not to keen on the whole freezer thing. Snipping does seem like the best way. I already have a full blown pet cemetery going on my property. I'm sure at some point there will be some chicks in there. I don't think I will be too permanently traumatized if I know that the chick would not have a healthy life. Gotta take the good with the bad (and the responsibility), right?

Yup and you feel better afterwards too! Especially when you can tell it would never live a good life. Pretty sure mine would have died by the end of the day... it was that bad.

me "Hun you put a fish in the toilet?"
him "YES for GODS SAKES BLEEP BLEEP FISH @#$@# BLEEP"
me "ok well what fish was it?
him "that F'n blleeep big one!"
me: "well which big one, hun?"
him "I don't Fn know! that big one da$%$@@!"
me "YOU PUT A 12" PLECOSTOMIS in the toilet and expected it to flush!" "you Fn bleep bleep @#$@#$ idiot!"
him "why you getting all worked up about it?"
me "take the dam toilet apart and get it O U T of the DRAIN NOW!"

two hours later and 50 bucks into a drain line medal cleaner thinger...... fish is removed and everything back to normal

him "sorry hun, I will go buy you a new fish"
me "WHAT! "

Dry Ice and a tupperwarr container will put the chick to sleep and it will die from CO2 toxicity very painlessly. Who has co2 or dry ice at home though.

Oh God! Okay, later tonight I'm gonna do it (when DH gets home) I've been very fortunate that I have never had to do it before. As I would say to anyone else, I'll have to Suck It Up Buttercup!

I hate asking this, but anyone with a REALLY humane way of culling chicks could you please PM me with the details?

I don't want to do this at all, but I've come to the conclusion that it's inevitable, and the sooner the better.

In the article, they used vinegar and baking soda to create the CO2.
