This reminds me of something that was terrible!!

we had a dead pleco (one of those huge sucker fish) die in our fish tank years ago.

here is the story......

I came home from work to hearing major grumbling coming from the bath off our kitchen.....
set my purse on the counter kicked off my heals and
I walk in to see DH working frantically to unclog the toilet!

me "whats going on Hun"?
him "bleep #%$#% bleep fish and so on..."
me "Hun you put a fish in the toilet?"
him "YES for GODS SAKES BLEEP BLEEP FISH @#$@# BLEEP"
me "ok well what fish was it?
him "that F'n blleeep big one!"
me: "well which big one, hun?"
him "I don't Fn know! that big one da$%$@@!"
me "YOU PUT A 12" PLECOSTOMIS in the toilet and expected it to flush!" "you Fn bleep bleep @#$@#$ idiot!"
him "why you getting all worked up about it?"
me "take the dam toilet apart and get it O U T of the DRAIN NOW!"

two hours later and 50 bucks into a drain line medal cleaner thinger...... fish is removed and everything back to normal

him "sorry hun, I will go buy you a new fish"
me "WHAT! "

I love that story! Plecos are 100% bone too, and a lot of that bone is razor sharp, did he get cut up in the process? I can't count the pleco cuts I've had!!! People would come in to buy the big ones and we would fight over who had to catch it because their barbed spines would get stuck in the net, then after you shredded the net getting it back out it would pop a gazillion holes in even the heaviest bags. We finally started saving the styrofoam shipping containers just for them. Love/Hate Plecos!

I don't know but seeing his arm wrenched in there I had a dawning for sure!

cochins I did it with that method from the link ONCE and I have to tell you I would never do it again. I think that's more for people who cant actually do the dirty deed if you ask me. either way its death, one is faster than the other. I choose INSTANT and done is the best way, and you will only know that when you have to do it.
I know instant is easier to do, but it's very important to me to know they are going out without pain. I really can't imagine someone going through my neck, even if it's instant.

Your right though.. I guess it's a decision I'll have to make when the time comes. I've been very fortunate so far.

I'm still torn up about Alexander. He still won't eat or drink on his own...

Oh my, I know what you mean, haha. Most of my poor dead fish end up in the woods because they are much too big to flush. They'd plug that toilet in an instant.

Oh yes! I hate catching them.

and I have a crazy survival story here. When we had a small fish pond (150 gallons) we purchased 2 small plecos to keep it clean. They disappeared and we never saw them again. 2 months later, the pond is so green that we decided to take the fish out, pressure wash it, and start over. We drained the pond and I didn't see them. I figured they must have died and continued going. We hosed it down with very cold well water and then filled it again (still no sign of plecos). We put the fish back in and left it until winter. Winter came so we drained it again and I found two 8 inch pelcos! The darn things survived!

I still don't know how..

Here's my poor Alexander. It's been exactly 1 week since the fight. I've never seen him droop his tail feather like this before and he's pretty weak. He hasn't eaten or drunken anything since the fight, but I've been tube feeding him to keep him hydrated. I think it might be time to let him go, but he seems so happy with is girls and he looks like he wants to continue on.

Oh, he really does not look happy, does he? I'm sorry! It sucks to see a favorite pet suffer like that.

I took that picture after I finished tube feeding him in the garage. He didn't appreciate it, but it's keeping him alive.

As soon as I put him back into the coop, he got excited. He's still weak, but he will walk around, "jump" onto his girls, and act normal.

If he looked like he did in the picture all the time, then I know the right decision would be to put him down, but when he's back in the coop, he gets excited and happy. He was even crowing. Seeing him like that makes me want to keep on trying. He's an extremely sweet boy.
