Quote: I've also started skipping posts. The thread moves so fast. DH is not doing well and I'm worried about him. We cancelled the house hunt for now and are at this stage trying to figure out what would be the best way forward for us. It's difficult trying to figure out what to do, big decisions pending... We were up 'till nearly 01:00am last night talking about this, so I'm half asleep and on energy drinks today! So you guys must excuse me if I'm scarce. I've got a lot going on at the moment.
OMG, do I know that feeling....hope your DH will be ok!!!!

sounds like you are all set

better get the bator cleaned and the new eggs set, you will be able to re-use the stage one brooder in 3 weeks

Ohhhh I wish, but I'm already running over budget for the coop and run, so the Barnevelder and speckled Sussex eggs will have to wait.

These are supposed to be the solid black Barnevelders, but I'm honestly not sure what they're going to look like, one of the peeps has quite a bit of brown and the black ones have cream colored bellies and chests.

Quote: It is then decided, If I pack books or something like that in it, it will be safe for now
Or if Sally could lend me that YARDSTICK, i can threaten him within an inch of his life to NOT throw it away....Yeah, NO, that wouldn't scare him much, I'll just take a sharpie and label it as such:
FUTURE COOLERBATOR I'll learn how to use that chipper if it disappears

am i understanding you correctly?

you put the eggs in the bator 2 hours ago and the temp is still only 32C ?

you may have a problem with the bator or thermometer?

what sort of incubator?

does it have a pilot light and is it on?

Well it's now up to 32c 92. Pilot light does keep going on and off.

It was spot on I think I'm going to have to make adjustments. What do you think??

I have just put another temp gage through a hole to see what that reads. It could be that it's one that rests on the eggs and its getting the temp of the egg and so I will check the air above it first before I do anything!

Ok this one is off by 0.8 c so I'm reading 36.9 and its rising! 37.1. We are getting there. Will see wont touch
I think it's that last bit takes hours to get to?!.
Ok. I think this is going back on EBay!! Lol

Okay i have a little story to tell about a little chick that was one of the last ones that I hatched the other day. This is a never give up, thinking a chick is dead because you cant see it breathing and it is ice cold. I got up this morning and went to feed and checked on the checks last before getting ready for work. The poor little thing got stuck between the ecoglow and wall of tote, and i thought it was dead when i picked it up, ice cold, no breathing, so i pushed my finger on its chest to see if I could feela heart beat, very faint. So i put it up against the ecoglow heating element and it started to move a little and then took a breath, I took it and put it under a heat lamp close and it started to breath more. I put it in a box with a heat lamp close. When i left for work it look just like a noemal chick sleeping. So never give up hope. I will post pics of the little one when I go home.

if the thermostat is correctly set, the pilot light should remain on until it gets to temp. You need to adjust it but sit over it and watch. This is where I have killed eggs before. I thought I was all set and came back 5 hrs bator and the temp was 105.

Good luck

I have my chicken toes crossed for you
