Hey, my incubator temp dropped two*, and after warming the house back up (it is SNOWING!!

) it is still at 100*. It has been 4 hours since I noticed.
I thought the eggs were supposed to start giving off heat at 4 days? Anyway, I am not touching the temp control on the incubator, but I am confused as to why the temp change. The humidity also dropped to 16%. I added some (warm) wet paper towels. It is up to 29% now.

I've noticed my incubator runs about 0.5-1*C cooler when I don't heat the room it's in. And the room gets cold, not freezing, but cold enough. When I heat the room it runs spot on at 37.5*C/99*F

If its a styrobator, they have a fairly thin insulation and will drop with ambient temp. warming the house will also drop ambient humidity so that will effect the incubator.

I would not worry too much about a 2 degree drop for a couple of hours. Try and keep the room you are incubating in within a 10 degree range.

Embryos give off heat but not significant. There wont ever be a point where they need cooling.

Well, Candled again and noticed movement in at least 8 eggs I thought were dead and maybe as many as 12. Its day 21 and they aren't hatching. I think I hate still air bators. The forced air bator has two chicks on day 20 and more pipping through. I put all the viable eggs in one bator together and am getting ready to clean the other bator and set it up with 41 Buff Orpington Eggs.

Didn't see any gobblers and only heard one. This weather sure has everything messed up.

The house is old, and the bedroom (while the best place for the incubator) is always the coolest. Not by 10*, though.
So is it time to candle yet? Sally said I would be candling daily. It has been 3 1/2 days. I have yet to candle.

try and avoid the temptation to candle. if they are white eggs you may see something on day 4 but more likely it will just increase anxiety.just peek at a couple if you really have to. the difference by day 7 is astounding.

It takes eggs several hours to change their internal temps. I try to keep my bater operating between 98-101 degrees. My house is 137, and the temps can very. When it gets cooler, I put little towels around sides of bater (leave air holes uncovered). If you want to know the internal temp of your eggs, keep a baby food jar of water (with lid on) inside your bater. When your worried, use a human thermometer to read the water temp, thats your egg temp.
