So hard to keep up with this thing as usual, :p congrats every one on hatchs and hope everything goes well for you sumi. :)

So... I took the 5 chicks that hatched yesterday out of the bator. The other two eggs had no pips yet. I figured I would leave them alone until tomorrow, then maybe candle and float test, mostly because I have duck eggs due to go into the hatcher on lockdown tomorrow, so I want to know if the chicken eggs are going to hatch or not... I decided to candle a few turkey eggs that are on day 14, and when I was closing the cover of the bator, one of the duck eggs in the turner caught my eye... It was pipped!!! They aren't even supposed to go into lockdown until tomorrow! And my hatcher is a mess from the 5 chicks that hatched yesterday...

So that set off a flurry of panicked activity from me... I candled the 2 remaining eggs... No movement in one, the other is dark like a maran egg (was one of 10 shipped to me as "rainbow layers", so no clue on the breed), and I never could see a darn thing in that egg... Float test was negative on both eggs, so I carefully opened them. The dark egg had never even developed and the other one looked like it quit right after lockdown. Then I did a quick emergency cleaning of the hatcher (my still air Hovabator), and went to move the duck egg... 3 of the 4 have pipped!!! Oh my goodness! They aren't even supposed to go into lockdown until tomorrow!!

Oh well... They are all tucked away safely in lockdown in the hatcher now, with my webcam watching them so I can keep tabs from home... Come on baby duckies!! My first duck hatch! I'm way too excited...

Oh yeah, then my daughter and I ran to our local feed store to get a small bag of chick starter since I forgot to bring some from home. They had a new shipment of bantam chicks... Too cute!! I had just told a friend that I would probably never buy from the feed store again, since I really enjoy hatching my own and can get some nice eggs from the swaps here... I walked out of the store with a small bag of chick starter, two Japanese Bantam chicks, two Mille Fleur Bantam chicks, and two White Cochin bantam chicks... Doh!!! I have a problem....

I am glad I didn't touch the incubator temp. It went back up to 102*, then 30 minutes after I saw, it went back to 100*. I feel safe with these temps. I won't be touching anything. I may cover the bator with a towel to see if that helps the temp, though.

I've heard to only hand turn eggs an odd amount of times. What happens if I accidentally turn them an even amount of times one day?

Good luck keeping the temps stable. I really fought it this last time. You might put a space heater in the room with the bator just to keep the room temps up a bit.
