Thanks for the link. I have read thru this one some.

http://naturalchickenkeeping.blogspot.ca/p/fermented-feed.html

After reading this I may start a few buckets. One for the chicks and younger birds with starter/grower. And another for my laying hens with Layena. What can you lose?? I don't know if I want to start out with 5 gallon buckets. But may go and buy 2 like plastic medium size mop buckets.
I've been reading through both of them...Bulldogma is on here and I've asked her about some of it..hopefully will hear soon. But one thing she said is any size container to start or one big enough for 2 days worth of feed that your birds normally eat since they may not eat it right away and mixing in with their regular feed at first to get them used to it. So I'm thinking you could start out smaller to get the ferment process going then add to larger bucket as they get excited about it? but I'm not an expert as this will be my first time.

Right. I'm not going to fill the buckets up. Maybe half full. From what I read it can sit there fermenting for days. So as they eat it I can just add a days worth and mix it all in. I have noticed before that if I forget and happen to leave a bowl in the rain, the next day my big girls will kill each other to eat the wet food. So I'm thinking they will not have a problem with it. Plus I have learned that if that's all they have they will eat it sooner or later.

After thinking about it, and not going to rob this wonder thread with this, but I bet Ice tea pitchers would work great. They have a lid but can breathe because of the opening you pour the tea from. It can hold quit a bit and you can add to it everyday. Just thinking out loud.

It is a good idea. You can even pour out the fluid into another container. I like the Pampered Chef one. I have too many birds to do use it, though.
Drunk chickens gotta luv it
