Sally, I don't think it is the thermometer. As cold as it has been the last few days, I think it is just that. IDK what it is doing in that area of PA, but here it is going down into the low 20's, and only up to about 50 during the day.

Having a very slow hatch. I have life in every egg I candle. I have had two more chicks just hatch. Today is day 21 and 22. I like the 20 day hatch a lot better than this one.
I hear ya on that one! I hope I run into an update soon as I am reading!
Quote: How many have hatched from that bator and were they banty? sorry I cant rememeber!
No not banty and I had my first two to hatch this morning on day 23 now from one bator and I had two more hatch last night from day 22 bator.

After thinking about it, and not going to rob this wonder thread with this, but I bet Ice tea pitchers would work great. They have a lid but can breathe because of the opening you pour the tea from. It can hold quit a bit and you can add to it everyday. Just thinking out loud.

What a great idea and hopefully they're food grade so for a small group that should do. I've been fermenting since last year and really liking it.

I do and I don't want to know. I'm scared to ask actually, especially now I'm still so upset. I don't want to hear he died a horrible death. I've decided for now, though I might chance my mind later, but for now I do not want to see or talk to them. I don't want to hear some excuse for they broke their promise. They really do not have a good reason. They had enough food and money to buy enough food to feed him for 10 years. They had building materials for a huge coop and run. They still have another rooster I gave them, Blacky (Heide's son), so they can keep a roo. Why did Heide go?

There is no valid excuse. I don't even know them and I am angry! I'm in the states... want me to go pay them a visit?lol

I hatched 5 muscovy's, even with the explosion and next week more to hatch. I am overrun with huge roosters like in BR and they are tearing up my girls. So today I will be gathering up all roosters and putting them in a rooster pen and placing all the girls together to give them a break. I think I have like 6 cockerels and 4 roosters to house together, then they can beat each other up instead on my girls, they need a break from these boys, it seems like when one jumps a girl, they all do, I had to make a little home for my poor blind Marans as I came home from work the other day to her completely bald and wing feathers missing and her apron off her back, when I picked her up her corp was empty and she was bone thin, she is now by herself and eating a lot, hopefully she will get some feathers back now that the boys are not sneak attacking her.
oh wow!!! COLD SHOWER the ROOS!! brats!! and congrats on scovy!

I just think they are the prettiest chicks out of any breed I've had before. Love the mask! lol
They are adorable chicks!
I think tomorrow morning when my eggs go to lock down I'm not even going to candle them. Whatever hatches, hatches. Just going to take them out of the cartons and lay them down. This time I have a different tray for hatching. The one in there now has too big of wire. The chicks had a very hard time walking and one even got it's toe stuck from last hatch. The other tray is longer and has finer wire for them. I also put a piece of wood on it so the chicks can't jump out the back and fall. Again like one did last hatch. Stupid chickens.
