modern medicated starter only contains amprolium. poults will need higher protein than chicks

I've never heard anything good with medicated starter. I've never used it and never lost a chick. So.

But like everything else, what kind of feed etc etc is just every bodies option. Except for the obvious of course.

Congratulations on the turkeys Sally!

I received my chicks from crazypetlady this morning and they are amazing! She sent 22 and every single one of them made it. There are at least 7 silkie chicks and they seem to be of really good quality. There was also a naked necked chick, 2 little white and brown chicks, and a bunch of super fluffy ones that I think might be ameraucana. These are honestly some of the cutest chicks that I have ever seen.

Quote: oh but Tony! you need to read through this site emergency area coccidiosis! you have been lucky and the day you get it you will be kicking yourself in the butt, its more common than you think and its so easy to prevent. And I have read no bad about medicated feed except from people that go for "all natural" or whatever they say they are, I refuse to put my flock at risk for something like that, like I had an issue with a Mom that refused to get her child vaccinated, I don't watch them anymore. That's my opinion and I am sure oz will throw some facts because, well he is alot smarter than me and has a great memory to boot!

I will add, there are always pros and cons to everything it can get so confusing!

Brooding Turkeys

If you’re planning to raise 10 or more poults, buy a 100-pound bag of turkey starter that contains
medication to prevent coccidiosis, a common intestinal disease. Turkeys should develop immunity to
coccidiosis while eating medicated starter feed.

But that's why I put ACV in there water. That stuff helps with so many things.

I can't take any eggs now anyway, Sally! I'd probably kill them anyway :( I need a better inky.
Thank you, though!
You're welcome to any eggs I have, unless you have no room or really don't want them. I figured I'd bring 'em since I'm an enabler.

or I've just been chick deprived since Easter, haha.

I've had lots of cute chicks including "designer birds" but these guys are absolutely adorable. I don't know what the super fluffy ones are, but they're incredibly cute. The silkie chicks are just gorgeous. I'll try to post some pictures tonight.
