We had a freak out last night ... DS was trying to be helpful and tried to turn the incubator down ... without asking .... because the temp was a little high .... he accidentally increased instead of decreasing .... i went in about 45 minutes later and just happened to stop by and check the bator ... 115 degrees !!!

i freaked out as these are the semi expensive eggs that are chicks DH really really really wants !!!! I got temps back down and believe it or not when I candled tonight all I had to pull was a question mark one that was clear a few days ago !!!

it stays that way ...
omg!!!

Actually I have 6. Here's 4 examples. Seems to be chicks inside. I just got rid of 14 eggs after I candled. Gosh I have bad luck with shipped eggs. Especially California eggs.

make sure you mark the air cells, if you see they are NOT pipping at around the same time as everyone else in general you may have to assist, I hate doing so as its hard to say "when" but you are getting a lot of hatching under your belt so you should be able to tell when something isn't right at this point. see the assist article, usually with these they are malpositioned but not like other end pipping, what they do is stay in position and cant swing head up to internally pip. so if you do assist and you need to internally pip you need to search for beak and if you cant find it try to "feel" for the wing, KNOW ANATOMY if you feel its wing you can tell the neck and pull up the head gently. what happens is they have absolutely no room to turn in there.., again see that assist article!

well. my eggs came. 9 out of 15 had moving air cells. 1 was cracked.

Set 25 eggs again today. Let the count down begin once again. Maybe be the last for awhile. Fenced in the 32x64 area for the roos. But will be chick haven for awhile. Until I get the hens side done.

Building the 6x6 roo house today. But going to move the Production roo back there to give my poor girls a break from him. Let there feathers regrow. He was back there yesterday all day, he was none to happy to be without his girls. Well he better get use to it. LOL. Even though I have 1 hen I can actually pickup so I put her back there with him for awhile. I'm just a softy!!

These are the Polish. I got sizzles too from a different lady. Kind of funny, the Polish were coming from Michigan and the Sizzles from TN...sent the same day yet the sizzles got here a day earlier...go figure the P.O. system is confusing to me! lol The polish were all bubble wrapped but looked like they were just dropped in the box...I don't think she packed that way as she had arrows pointing up (well to the top of the box) so I guess my package got the drop kick test or something..oh well..hopefully I get a couple chicks out of 15 eggs!! That's all I'm really hopin for..a couple funny lookin chickies! ;)

Quote: That's my day pen, I SSSHHHHHHH, don't tell the chicks- they think it is their new playground!! They are having a blast in there!!
Whaddya think, should I red-neck camo the infamous shed too? I was thinking about it!!
That cat is awesome!! She likes watching the chicks, but she has never tried to get any of them! We take them out of the brooders all the time, and she just ignores them, even if they go near her, she just gives them a look of disgust and goes back to sleep!!! For some reason all my animals just KNOW that they must tolerate anything I bring home, as it is now part of the family!! Of course I would never leave the top off the brooder and turn my back, but I think it would be OK, actually. Hey, my ducklings are in a 2 man tent, for God's sake, and there's no holes in it!!! (OMG, they gotta go OUT)

I'm going to brag on my big black barn cat. He was here when we bought the house. The previous owners left him. He roams everywhere. Kills birds, snakes, lizards, rats, mice, rabbits and squirrels. So far he lets the young pullets chase h off his food. He just sits there while they walk all around him. He briefly looked at the 70 something little chicks in the pen, yawned and walked off. I was worried he would think little chicks were birds. No such case. He just lays in the chicken yard and sleeps.
