Quote: I know right! Good thing I have turned the rabbit hutch into quail pens! four freeloaders so far not an egg! but I have 12+ in the bator to hatch this weekend and one loner hatchling.

Some things some don't know about Cot Quail eggs.....

4-5 quail eggs to equal a chicken egg. The differences in quail egg nutrition as compared to a chicken egg are many. One 10 gram Coturnix Quail egg has 3 to 4 times the nutrition of a 55 gram chicken egg. It has 13% protein as compared to a chicken egg’s 11%, It has twice the vitamin B2 and vitamin A. Quail eggs also contain three times the amount of vitamin B1 as well. You can also get 5 times the iron and potassium along with being rich in calcium and phosphorus. Furthermore, quail eggs have a good deal of good cholesterol and none of the bad cholesterol. Thanks to an ovamucoid protein contained in Coturnix Quail eggs, they do not cause allergies or diathesis. That same protein is helpful to those suffering from allergy symptoms and, in fact, there are allergy drugs derived from this same protein.http://www.survivalblog.com/2012/06...tle-homestead-bird-by-bigdtc-in-maryland.html

Gas is right! Coulda sold that sheaaauut!

Checking in. I think they are up to 20 kids dead in Moore. Not sure how many of them are from the elem. that was leveled. 51 total deaths. I keep telling myself that I am blessed but my heart breaks for those families.

Ok serious broody nonsense going on in my coop. Found 2 girls in the community nest box. Broody #2 who was on golf balls found 3 eggs one of which must have broken as she had 2 under her and yolk everywhere. Broody #3 took over the golf balls. Both girls are on the roost tonight and I moved everything around. If they find the eggs they can hatch them.

I moved the rest of my 3 month olds in. Going to start figuring out who goes and who stays from that group.

Hugs to you Sally!
Sad SAd deal. It breaks my heart to hear about those children.

I'm trying to remember.... with polish chicks, is it the male that has spikes and the females swoop back on their head feathers?

I have polish in the incubator. White Crested Blacks
Quote: Lots of prayers for those folks.
Quote: Just put her in a cage for a few days, give her food and water. I use a wire cage. I just got through breaking one.
Quote: I love beer can chickens.

Yea. Lots of wind and rain. Thats all we had. The fridge started stinking this morning like it was on fire but everything was working fine. I pulled it out and unplugged it and my wife cleaned up the dust bunnies under it. I have a repairman coming out.

I put 6 of the 6 week old Buff Orpingtons out with the main flock this morning as a trial run to see how they do. Im sure they will be fine and I will move another 20 out this afternoon. Maybe more. Then Im going to start culling some birds and putting them on facebook on a couple farm pages to sell.

EEWWWWWW, it really gets smelly around here when they harvest and turn the rest under.....then it rots...........Yeah, gross, just gross!!

When I moved to Florida 20 years ago, DH's aunt told us about hurricanes, "Just a little wind, Just a little rain"
She was living in West Palm Beach when hurricane Andrew wiped out Homestead
