The farmer market is the problem. Every time I buy a chicken from our flee market this is what happens. Chickens will get stressed over the move and sitting in those metal cages for any period of time. Being transported in an open air vehicle will also make them ill. Also you have no idea usually how they were raised, what feed they were eating etc etc. Do they have runny noses, eyes swelling etc?

Nope nothing like that just the symptoms i listed then dead :( thanks anyways

Any recommendations for mal-positioned babies that are weak and haven't pipped?

Everyone was progressing except those 2 eggs. Not even an internal pip so I opened them up to take a peak. I see legs and yolk, so they must be mal-positioned. Veins are starting to recede and they are very dark (increased carbon dioxide levels). Both are very weak. Part of me says to go find their beaks and get them breathing, but another part of me says it's too risky and they'll have a better chance being left alone.

I am going to say coccidiosis. You need to start on corid 9.6% solution 9.5ml per gallon of water. See how she is fluffed up and neck drawn in that is one of the first signs. Now it could be something else but this is the easiest and fastest to treat. Keep treating for 5 days.

If you can't fine the corid solution get the corid powder 20% and mix 1/2 tsp per gallon of water.

Corid is usually in with the cow/pig/goat meds.

I took the chance on one of them. I went down the shell slowly avoiding blood vessels. Over half the shell was removed by the time I found it's beak. I moved it's beak upwards and it wasn't moving. I was sure that it had died, but as I was walking back to the incubator, it chirped! Right after I found the beak, I broke a major blood vessel. It's not bleeding anymore, but it lost a decent amount of blood. Anyways, he's breathing and all I can do it pray. I'm not sure what to do with the other one yet.

Thanks! On my way to the farm store now.

Hopefully it is just cocci and your chick is better in no time.

Sally the tester did not really look around. I showed him all my birds and their pens so he would know which needed testing and which didn't. I had a bunch that were too young to test. I think the age limit was 4 months and older get tested. I have all my feeds in metal trash cans. I did clean out some poop before he got here but that was about it. It was really a very simple process. The hardest part for me was catching the birds. Exhausting.
oh crap! Chad said 4 weeks and up! uggggg that will change plans here!
My birds come for treats and are used to me holding them and checkin them over so I should be ok with the catchin part, I don't free range so they see us they RUN for us!
