Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

Ok. here's a shipped egg hatching question. I have some shipped eggs. Most seem "ok"...some have saddle cells I believe they're called...and those seem way bigger...so here's my dilema...up humidity so the saddle cells "hopefully" slow down some...but wouldn't that make all the rest slow down, too? Or...keep humidity where it's at since the majority seem to be the right size for where they're at incubation wise? I have read the article btw...a few times! lol but just keep thinkin to myself.."To up the humidity or to not up the humidity...this is the question".lol
Careful with the humidity, I hiked it up because I had a lot of saddle air cells. Most all of them (22) were full of liquid that was like gel and turned to glue and I had to assist most of them out of their shells. I kept the humidity around 50% for the first 18 days then upped to 65%. It ended up being too high.

Doug had lost satellite reception as the storms rolled in - stay safe over there doug i hear more might be heading your way

mizzles ask with polish chicks is it the make that has spikes and the females a swoop ?

chirping cricket informed us that halupki is one of her DH's fav and philly steak from philly as he is a PA fellow

Oz asked if anyone had used a scovie to incubate goose eggs before .. several of us saw nothing wrong with that !!
and says he is getting nervous as he has a lot of eggs and was wishing he had about 10 broodies
and one of the january hatchers just laid their first egg !!! yay !!
and says it is working and he is too excited to sleep !!

sumi asked how may eggs did odd still need to make 300 ...
and he said b/c the adoption has been fast tracked he needs to excellerate the program
and when every thing s is final he will divide his time and let brenie manage the chickens which will pay bernies salary

Tony suggested leghorn's in answer to chicknfun's question and is thinking of moving his chickens around
and said NO!!! to dougs offer of a kitten

Tony told rennerae when roosters attack as his house they get a beer can up the tuckus and hit the grill

Doug said they had lots of wind and rain and a dying fridge
and he put several of the younger buff orphingtons in with the main flock
and he and chicknfun discussed weather on and off ....

chicknfun wished oz a safe and wonderful trip and wished the little one a HB as well

Doug said the 100 posts thing was no longer true to post pics as several others mentioned as well ..apparently there was a change that now allows a first post to be pictures

waffle asked how long it takes a hen to start laying again after having chicks

sumi posted two links concerning pictures and posting -
Inserting Pics on the new BYC
and here
https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/troubleshooting-byc-problems-bugs-error-messages-other-issues

Rennerae asked if she should lockdown bantam eggs a day early and should be expecting baby bunnies yesterday or today
and said watching the news was too much for her

Oz had trouble sleeping ... he was so eggsited over that first pullet eggs
and i think we are all happy and eggcited for him about the egg and his whole adventure

Sally shared some interesting quail info and now it has chicknfun dreaming or quails

Sumi told oz "you set out to do a pretty amazing thing. You went above and beyond what the average chicken owner would to get a few eggs! It took 5 months, lots and lots and lots of planning, travelling, mishaps, joys and tears, but you saw it through and turned it into quite a story that kept loads of members (and lurkers) entertained and hopefully inspired a few of them too! I know you inspired me! So many people have these crazy ideas and do absolutely nothing about it. Kudos to you I would love to see you write a book on this wonderful adventure and I will read it, promise!

P.S. I hope we're going to get a pic of The Egg. "

chicknfun is running out of space lol
and is going to try booting some of the younger chicks out lol

Sally says she does day 18 for all chickens unless when she sneaks a candle in a day or two before and there are already internal pips

and shared a pic on post 16339 of their first own serema baby and a cot and one of the bcm mutts

and the post after that is a pic of three of my very own new babies

lemd joined in and shared a picture of adorable baby ducks that were born thanks to sallys article #16344

waffle cant wait to move the chickens to their new coop and will have turkeys eggs to pick up and thanks to mom and dad has a new incy ...

i plan one day on having from button quail up to emus... chicknfun feels sorry for my monster aka DH

Waffle was looking online at ostrich eggs but knows DH would not be too happy with that idea

chicknfun warned lemd that duckys are messy but lemd alreadys knows lol
and wants peafowl but DH says know

waffles is thinking about peafowl as well

I myself are not found of them but am drooling over emus !!

waffle enjoyes chatting with us while family was out and ids were glued to mickey nouse for a bit

and sally ask if waffle was willing to share mum and dad lol i bet we all wish that !!

waffle is nervous about using the new bator but sally reminded .. there are all of us here !!
and we all loved waffle and kids pic !!

and several people mentioned that geese are not their favs

and this my dear peeps is around the time I crashed last night ... lol right after finishing the brooder and coming in lol

Today was chicksooners last day of school

sally asked chicksooner -
the NPIP cert, pre testing visit..... what do they go over with facility? wondering what changes I would need to make

sally said quail eggs have a lot more yolk than white

kaybee is thinking maybe she needs an egg intervention

Oz asked if quails ate less then does that mean less poop too

sally say kaybee doesnt need intervention ..yet lol
confused turtle asked what we thought of her candled eggs - post 16404
and is trying to freak the ILs out with green and blue eggs

a few people suggested wait and check again but sae some possible veiniung on one or two

waffle is so eggcited about hatching

kaybee asked if there was anyway to hatch 45 in her bator instead of 41 it was suggested probably so with no turner but oz suggested a fan .. i like mine without

kaybee said thanks and chicknfun said good morning and was off to research quail

kodster stopped by and announced that moe is a roo

cochins hates missing days on the thread and has 8 newly hatched, 3 zipping, and 2 pipped as of 9 hours ago

rennerae has a sick chick and asked for advice posts numbers 16429 and 30

chicksooner suggested corid

and cochins asked for advice on two malpositioned chicks

Sally is leaving us for a day or two for a much needed break
and changed her avy and wondering if hill will notice

doug posted pics 16459 .. aww such cute chickies and i love the cat still

bantam farm - welcome - just set mail order eggs and is waiting to turn on the turner and ask for any advice for a good hatch --- read hatching 101 in sallys signature... always a great place to start

Marty ask whats hatching ya'll ? lol love it

Thanks Sally! Have some much needed FUN!! :)
Have a great time sally :0)
Yes NO SHIPPED EGGS to start!

I was going to simply say Eggs LOL
Don't worry just my eggs to start. Oh and I asked yesterday when a hen will start laying after looking after chicks.... Silkie started laying today :0)
I just did it to the other egg. It was difficult, but I found the beak, and the chick is breathing.
How did you make out with the two little ones??

So I set my Eggs in my incubator today but I did come up against a problem! How do you control humidity in this thing?! Its a hovabator and I am thinking I should have bought something to measure the humidity?! I know there are vent holes to open but that doesn't sound very precise

I have a PIP!!! One of my Serama's has pipped and the other 3 are rockin and Rollin. Yay! I had an internal pip at candle this morning and locked em down. Just right on time today is day 18 all 4 serama's made it to lockdown, only 3 silkies and my Sebright cross...(this one should be interesting...). one really scary saddle air cell in one silkie. My parents are visiting and my mom is so excited to see a hatch she told me to wake her up if the little one comes tonight...

My sick chick is better, poo is more solid and she ate some feed that I wet with treated water.

I now have 12 fluffy chicks.

All that's left are the 2 mal-positioned chicks. They're both breathing, but both still have major blood vessels, fairly large yolk sacs, and they're missing over half of their shells. I stuck them into an egg carton lined with tissue paper to help act like a "shell". I know that the odds are against them, but I really hope that they make it.

and I'm glad that your chick is feeling better.

Look at the little ones. I'm amazed with my cat. He loves wild birds. Guess he knows not to eat my chicks.
Lovely pics, again.

You should take some for the calendar later this year. Your birds are so pretty! My MIL's cats cannot leave the wild birds alone, but they don't go near the chickens. They know better!

Ooh, talking about birds, I'm sitting outside on the porch now and I just heard two fish eagles talking to each other. That's just the most beautiful thing, that call.
