I have a PIP!!! One of my Serama's has pipped and the other 3 are rockin and Rollin. Yay! I had an internal pip at candle this morning and locked em down. Just right on time today is day 18 all 4 serama's made it to lockdown, only 3 silkies and my Sebright cross...(this one should be interesting...). one really scary saddle air cell in one silkie. My parents are visiting and my mom is so excited to see a hatch she told me to wake her up if the little one comes tonight...

My sick chick is better, poo is more solid and she ate some feed that I wet with treated water.
Hope you have a good hatch!

I now have 12 fluffy chicks.

All that's left are the 2 mal-positioned chicks. They're both breathing, but both still have major blood vessels, fairly large yolk sacs, and they're missing over half of their shells. I stuck them into an egg carton lined with tissue paper to help act like a "shell". I know that the odds are against them, but I really hope that they make it.

I had a malpositioned chick hatch exactly like you described and it was fine. As long as you keep it damp they should be o.k.

I was worried about the same thing, but I found as long as you don't free more than their heads and keep their feet (especially) and their wings tucked in they usually stay put. How are your 2 doing now? I hope those vessels and yolk sacs have shrunk a bit by now. It always feels to me like these complicated assists take extra long to complete. Or maybe it feels that way because it's so nerve wrecking!

Their heads are still tucked inside, I just have their beaks free. One still has a ton of bright red vessels and yolk. The other looks like the blood vessels have begun to recede, but there is still quite a bit of yolk. The one should be ready by the end of the night, but I think the other one may need to stay put until tomorrow.

I once read that it's the chick struggling that draws the yolk and blood inside. Assisted chicks don't struggle as much and therefore take longer. That's my little theory, but realize that it could be wrong. I do notice that they don't struggle as much when assisted, and they seem to tale longer, but I have never timed it before.

Candled my day 5 eggs yesterday, only saw activity in 4/10. Hmmm.... Naturally, the bantam Cochin eggs I am most excited about appear to all be clear, and I can't see into the two purple eggs, that I now suspect were laid by my lone RSL. Will candle again in a week and hope for more evidence of life. :fl

Here is Frick...one of the reasons I ask..
