Granny's gone and done it again

My momma was a southerner born and raised. I may have been born in Illinois but I still call it supper. I was surprised when we moved to Missouri the southern influence in our area. Kirksville, 16 miles to the north and in Adair county is strictly 'northern'. While Macon in Macon County where we live is very southern. Southern drawl, Southern friendliness. Every time we go there we realize that we are really Southerners at heart.
We lived in the Chillicothe area for 12 years. Lots of friendly people but they did not know how to take my southern drawl. We were 90 miles south of Des Moine and 90 miles east of Kansas City hot summers and cold winters.

It's weird really but we noticed the cut off here in La Plata. A lot of folks talk with a soft southern draw. The further south you get the more pronounced the drawl becomes. No drawl in KC.On the rare occasions I went to Chicago when I lived in Central IL I was always told, oh you're a down stater. You talk with a southern drawl. Just weird.

Interesting day here. About 30 sec after posting my last post, DH who ventured out this morning to pick up a grocery and feed order up in Kirksville, radioed me on our HAM radio and announced he was stuck about a half a mile from home trying to get up a hill. He was going to try a bit longer. I went out with a bucket of ash and sprinkled down the driveway enterance where I could see ice is spots and waited. No DH. Went back in and radioed him. He was still stuck. Grabbed buckets of ash we save from our stove, one of our sleds and headed west. It wasn't too bad where the trees were shading the gravel road but the minute I hit the top of the hill yep, ice skating rink. DH was walking towards me and we went back to the car where I proceeded to sprinkle ash and he inched his way up the hill until the old van got her wheels under her and up the hill she went. He stopped to wait for me and offer me a ride back but no, I wanted to walk. Most exercise I've had in two weeks and loved it. Legs and back are sore but it's a good sort of hurt. I doubt if the road is going to improve anytime soon. Just the way life is around these parts but we have enough food laid in to get us through the worst of winter so letter snow! We are ready for it.

Granny, interesting you asked if this was that was the same tree on a tabletop. A memory popped up.
This is the one I had a couple of years ago. It's on 45 inches, just shy of 4 ft. Mine today is just over 5 ft.

I need to call you. I would love to hear that drawl.
