Insomnia here too. Every couple of days I take over the counter sleep aid so I can sleep. :(. Single mom with a full time job and church callings keeps me running so it's hard to unwind. I'm making it okay though. :). My chickens are therapy for me! Caring for them and hatching to gain a small back yard flock is relaxing. <3

I often sit and watch the babies when i cannot sleep .. they are so cute at this stage playing and exploring .. i have medicine from the dr but it doesnt always help ....

Stress and sleep... Oh no. If I'm stressed I have a nice big glass of wine or cider, that usually helps, since I'm not a regular drinker. It just knocks me out. Until I wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom that is, 03:00am seems to be my "happy hour". Then I'm awake. I'm also a very light sleeper, so if there's noise I can forget about it. I've started using ear plugs, those cheap hearing protection types you get at hardware stores and they helped a lot though. But they don't block all the noises. Like DH's snoring. Heavens, that man can snore! And then he gets mad at me when I wake him up

I'm with you there. My chickens helped me a lot when I got depressed. My roo, Heide, used to know when I was low. I don't know how he did it, but he just knew. I remember one day I was feeling really crap and he came into the house, which he didn't do often, and every time I looked up he'd be standing there staring at me with his head to the side, like he was asking "what's up?" I miss him so much!

Awwww, Sumi, that's sweet. I believe animals are intelligent and can sense things. I also don't believe there's an animal heaven but that we will all be together again, not separated. :D

Absolutely! My friends used to laugh at me with my chickens, until they saw the bond I had with some of them, especially Heide. Then they went and got their own flocks.

Sad SAd deal. It breaks my heart to hear about those children.
I use photo bucket. Then copy and paste the image.
I have polish in the incubator. White Crested Blacks
Lots of prayers for those folks.
Just put her in a cage for a few days, give her food and water. I use a wire cage. I just got through breaking one.
I love beer can chickens.

The best!!

I let all the chickens out of there coop, feed and watered them. Then went back in and grabbed a cup of coffee. Was going to come in here and thought well it's nice out this morning I go have this cup of coffee on the deck and look at everybody. WELL, I walked outside and noticed in the back , the new area, that a leghorn was out running around. She flew the coop. And noticed all my other birds were acting really weird. I thought they had spotted another snake and was reacting to it. So I came back in and put my flip flops on and started walking down there to put the leghorn back in and guess what I see roaming my fence line!!!! A big Red Fox!!!

So I grabbed my trusty 2x2 and started running down there, it seen me and took off in the woods. DAM thing!! I have never seen a fox here in the 13 years I had this lot. Freakin!!! Haven't seen it since. But now I'm worried. Those are all my new birds.

I talked with an old timer who lost 4 roos to a fox, he said to put a small radio out there and have it playing when your not around. Foxes won't come any where near a human. And with the radio playing they think people are talking and around and won't come near the chickens. So I need to go get a cheap one. That's all I need to to have a fox eat my new, expensive birds. I might have to go searching for the den if need be. Now every time I walk out there I'm always looking back there to see if it's around. UUMMM!! At least for that time I know the fence did it's job. One good thing I guess. They can't get then at night, the big clean door is to high off the ground for the fox to jumup and then tear the chicken wire. So I'm guessing. I hope any way.
