Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

Shipped eggs came yesterday. Disappeared in the postal system for 24 hours - frustrating.

Slight corner crush on the box. I was expecting very well wrapped eggs. I got 24 eggs wrapped in papertowels, put in 1/2 egg cartons on their sides in the box. Box was carefully marked "this side up" which kept eggs on their sides..... Was expecting more the bubble wrap, double box, eggs right side up technique, silly me.

3 eggs broken, so had mess to deal with. Few good air cells, couple saddles and some loose. Couldn't tell on several, hoping not scrambled.
Let sit, big side up, for over 24 hours, in 70 degree room, before putting in incubator. Incubator has been right one, so I'm trying putting them in room temp incubator and then letting everything warm up together.

I won't start turning for at least 5 days.

This will be an interesting hatch (I hope we have a hatch). Not only dealing with shipped eggs that had a rough trip, but we are at 8,500 feet which presents it's own challenges with eggs from lower altitude.

Just got through locking all my girls, 1 roo lol, chicks in there houses for the night. Why are they such a BI^^^ when they go in at night. older ones and the 3 month old ones. I swear. Will never figure them out lol. From what I figure it's all who was raised with who. The perfect world is to raise all your breeds together at once. Then they seem fine. But as we know life is not perfect. I just shake my head and walk away. CHICKENS!!!! Why do we love them so!?

Greetings earthlings

After a 14 hr direct flight I had a moment of panic when the golf bag was a no show. It was found an hr later and cleared customs along with a TV box full of eggs.

I have a busy day. The sun just came up. I have a flight to Bacolod, a dash for supplies and then if I have the energy a 3 hr drive home. If not I will sleep 10 hrs and leave at 3AM.

So glad you're back with Mrs.Oz and the kiddies in paradise!! I am totally living vicariously through you, ya know!

Your life is so exciting! Wish your little girl Happy Birthday from all of us BYC'ers, and have fun!!

Pleased to say I finally got my Turkey eggs. But a big disappointment as I was only given 4 eggs. Apparently they lost track of which were which??? I would have only got 3 but I asked if I could take one from the nest. I tried to candle a few to try catch one about half way through or so as my parents leave for the UK again in just under two weeks. I didn't get one
Far along tthough as I felt kinda awkward with someone watching over me and there were 15 odd eggs in the nest. I really wanted to candle that egg again tonight but my phone which the flash with the app the strongest flashlight works fantastic, died and gave up the ghost today. So mad too as I had a number with someone who I might have got Cochin eggs off was in there :0(

i have one sick and lost one but totally unrelated incidents..the one i lost had issues from the beginning ...
hill suggested Nutridrench for the sick chick

cochins was surpised at the lack of posts as was I
the first of the two chicks has a ruptured yolk and the second one has a "kink" in its neck

sumi wished us a good morning and suggested an egg yolk mixed with water for the sick chick and some sav a chick as well

kaybee has insomnia right along with me
hill suggested valerian root, chamomile and peppermint

Sumi and I both have snorer Dhs and we both agree that chickens help a lot when stressed

tony says beer can chickens are the best and candled eggs and had one blood ring to toss and one that seems a little behind in development and OH NO !!

has a fox hanging around )and says it will be hanging on his wall if he gets a chance)

gracie made some suggestions about keeping the fox away on post 16553 and hopes sally has a fun break, oz has a safe trip - He did arrive safely - and that chicks do ok and everyone has a happy friday !!

DeerFangRanch - Welcome - had some shipped eggs issue and is still hoping for a good hatch !!

doug went to look for pips and found a hatched chick instead .. tony ask what is that number 500?

Oz thought oops is that for me lol

lizanne hatched her first shipped eggs weeks ago and only 2 hatched ... but she just got some in that look good

OZ let us know that other than a moment of panic over a missing golf bag that showed up he is safe and sound at his destination
and can't wait to see the kiddos and mrs oz

kaybee watched the barred rock hen chase a squirrel out of her back yard and loves her EE that likes to snuggle

sharron has well packaged eggs that the po destroyed there as well ....

Tony's chickens are causing him a bit of confusion and trouble lol ..and we love them simply jusy because tony

gardeningmama is glad oz made it safely back to the wife and kiddos and yes we all wish a happy happy birthday to that precious little girl he has !!!
