Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

Having weird hatching issues this time. I have 6 that hatched normaly. I have 3 that died, and I know they were alive on day 21. Looked at them and they were positioned upside down in the egg. I have 2 more in the bator. I looked at one, and it hit a blood vessel when it pipped, so it has some blood on it's beak, and a little inside the egg. It looks positioned right, but the yolk sac is at the top of the egg, by it's head. the other pipped somewhere in the middle of the egg, and is still alive and breathing, but still has bright red veins. Do I assist, what can I do for the one with the yolk sac issue. Will it eventually be able to absorb it? Ahhhhh...... was it something I did, or something with the eggs that made so many in bad positions?

Doug has put the high spiking eggs into lockdown - 48/83 but the numbers might drop after he ndles

Tony suggested doug not raise the humidity so high next time and see if that helps

hill hopes everyones hatches are going ok and is stil lwaiting to go into lockdown on 8 eggs
and played eater egg hunt and finally found her chickens eggs

waffle says there is a need to figure out the new incubator and it is dry there

Rennerae asked if new chicks would be too young for preventative corrid as the feed store she goes to is out of medicated feed

doug added a touch of water and is at 74% so he took the lid off and got it down to 67% and is thinking about removing all the water

cochins air cells have dipped and there is shadowing !! go little goslings
and says she had chicks similar to doug's klost ones before and it wsnt humidity but rather poor parent nutrition in the shipped eggs
and she has been thinking about sally and wished us all a happy memorial day
cochins also suggested doug try weighing the eggs if it is a humidity issue

doug replied he has nothing to weigh them but is taking the lid off everytime the humidity goes over 70 to see if that helps

and said looks like doug's issue might well be humidity and possibly low temps

low temps cause them to grow at a much slower rate, can cause all kinda issues in the end from brewing so long, some can go up to 28 days. Terrible hatches like that, I would much sooner run 101 than 98 for sure. kaybee if you look in the hatching 101 article there is a bunch of links to some great info on "what went wrong" some have pics/visuals and some explain what can/does go wrong. very interesting!

did you have severe saddle shaped air cells? perhaps they couldn't turn into position, also low temps and high humidity can cause big wet chicks that cannot turn either.
I would investigate, do you have images to show us? I really dont know what to tell you unless you show me, what day is this now? Are you positive your thermo/hygros were calibrated? How did air cells look on day 18?

wait, so no hawk? YAY!!!~ there are hawks...which is what made me think they got her.. but they didn't! :) so far they're leavin my chickies alone! :D

It really does help. What I thought was the yolk was her naked looking neck. lol. I think these chicks must have gotten on the large side. For some reason her head wasn't under her wing, and I'm guessing that might be why she pipped a vein. I assisted a little, and she got herself out. Her yolk sac was completely absorbed, but there was a lot of blood at the bottom of the egg.

A bunch of it was clotted, so I think it was from when she pipped. It probably looked like more than it was, because she hatched on a wet white paper towel. She seems to be doing well though, running around and peeping. One more to go....
 
Wondering when to give up on these eggs. I haven't been weighing them but the air cells don't seem to have changed & they don't look any different :-(. The temps have been between 99.3-100.0 the whole time (the 100 was very brief but since I logged it I added it), the humidity has never been more than 45%. It has an egg turner. these were shipped eggs. What did I do wrong?

These are on day 10. I know the pics aren't great but shouldn't there be more development by now? I hope I'm just being impatient but I think my first hatch has failed.
 
Eggs went in bator at 99.5 yesterday at 99.5 but I came home today to a 115 degree temp. :(. Just throw in the towel now or wait a couple of days to see if there is a miracle egg or two?

IMHO- #2 & #4 look like early quitters. The others look like clears. By Day 10 you would see tons of activity in there. I would pitch them all.
