Had a chick die last night while sleeping.

Rolled over and couldn't get back up. 2nd one that did this this season. Next hatch I'm going to put paper towels down for the first few days. Then the pine shavings. The pine shavings are too soft and they have a hard time rolling back over.

I am going to cut a pool noodle down and ream to size to use as a chick donut for support. I cant for the life of me find a normal old school tea cup with a tapered bottom and I am not paying 20 bucks on ebay to get one! There is a way to twist a rag and a papertowl into a donut but I never got it right!

I put the eggs in lock down. It is not looking good. I am betting I get one to hatch, and it is just one of my mixes. Oh well. I am trying to keep my numbers down anyway.
Broody #1 seems to be doing fine. Broody #2 has 11 eggs and a shell that was part of the initial 5. I think 2 eggs are missing. You know how it is trying to work in the dark though. If I hadn't marked her first eggs (and now these) I would worry some were kicked out. Now I am thinking some were crushed with the others going in and out, and then eaten.
I will go back out before bed to move her to another coop.

YAY!!!


and we have 3 pips so far! none of our CCL are pipped yet, just brahma and a serama single : (

Gorgeous Serama, Sally!!!! I got 8 eggs from BHep here and 2 hatched. But it was my own fault. I have 2 gorgeous Serama roosters. And amazing colors! One has a deformed left eye and a crooked beak because of my assisting. But he has been great. They are full grown and sooooo tiny!!! XD

Morning All! Today is going to be the craziest day ever, trying to get everything finished for the fundraiser. I seriously am sick to my stomach with nerves, so any prayers would be greatly appreciated. People have been bringing things to sell, and today is the official drop off, so it should be looking like Sanford & Son by this evening. I have to bake all evening, clean, set up tables etc...

My body & brain hurt! I sooo....can't wait until Sunday and this is all over, LOL! Wish me luck, and talk to y'all on Sunday!! Have a Great Day!

Had another chick hatch last night, candled again, another one is intermally pipped and the other 5 are close.

I candled my day 8 eggs last night, and I have 4 out of 8 developing. I have one that had veining before, but last night it looked bad. The veins were cloudy, but I could see the little chicklette embryo still moving around. Can it still make it, or is it dying?

if its moving it should be ok! Both my duck eggs look like you explained! they are hanging in there!

6 Olive Eggers, 2 White Leghorns, and 1 Salmon Faverolles survived the 110 temp spike. At least it wasn't a total loss. I have BCMs in there too but, of course, I can't see a thing in them while candling. It's Day 5 so we still have a long way to go but I'm hopeful . . . and glad I didn't kill them all.
