I have one lone egg set to hatch tomorrow. Poor thing will be way lonely. The next batch of eggs don't hatch until next Thursday. I found a bad egg in my incubator today. I just set it on Saturday, and when I candled last night I noticed it looked weird, so I took it out today, and cracked it open to have a look.

Calling all eggers from BYC hatchers.. Experimenting in creating purple eggs, so looking for some pure blue egg layers to cross, like I said total experiment but any hatches that are culled from breeding will be donated back for free. Everyone should experience the joy of chicken!!

I would LOVE goats with Minnie ears!!

Sally I think you need to decide what's best I agree I don't think you really need to be NPiP just to breed and enjoy your birds! I would just keep on doing what you are doing and enjoy your birds you will still gets a good price for them even without the certification! You have beautiful birds! Don't let all this junk bring you down!

X2. I don't think anybody around here is. And they sell there's.

in 2011 there were 2 reports of Avian flu outbreaks in turkeys. 40,000 turkeys were destroyed. In the same year 238,000,000 turkeys were eaten. If you were a turkey farmer you would have a 0.01% chance of having turkeys with the disease. No reports of avian flu in 2012 or half of 2013. Thats 600million turkeys that made it to the dinner table. 20,000,000,000 eggs and 5,000,000,000 chickens were not destroyed for avain flu in the USA during the same 2.5 years.

I say the odds are pretty low.............. hang on.... the sky is falling

Thanks guys. it was just 30 mins old!! He seems to be doing better now. Had another hatch! all good so far. pretty exciting stuff. Managed to catch one coming out the shell on camera too!

Make darn sure you don't put them under a heat lamp were they can flip over and not get back up. I lost 1 from each of my 2 hatches because of that. That's why I'm switching to paper towels for for first few days when I move them out of the incubator. They can have a very hard time rolling back over if you have pine shavings in the brooder.
