Question I cant use hen saddles as its too freaking hot, what on earth should I do for these brahma hens, they are starting to look a mess the poor things! Will they bleed on their backs too?

Use the saddles anyways I did, my blind hen was bleeding on her back, wings and head. I had to get rid of the roo because he was too rough with girls, now everyone is happy.

Ya we got a beautifull roo who is just terrible with his hens I'm thinking he needs to go he's just to mean I would post pics but my girls are ashamed to be seen like this all battered and beaten we also have a roo that is hen pecked literally is sad to see all this abuse going on in my houses

it has been 5 months since i hatched on ground hog day of this year.

i was disappointed with my low hatch rate after shipping.

i got 7 chicks from about 40+ eggs.

HOWEVER

i'm now pretty sure of the sexes AND

I GOT MOSTLY FEMALES

I GOT 6 females and ONLY 1 male

strange, eh? just thought i'd report this.

that is like having a bigger hatch rate (for those who really want hens!)

i don't know if it was just luck or if other people have found that shipped eggs come out this way

shipped to Massachusetts in february...so maybe up against cold...and of course rough handling...

i had a a lot of eggs arrive today. i got them inside pretty fast. its my biggest concern at the moment because of our heatwave. I got some jumbo show pekin eggs. They are massive. twice the weight of the welsh harlequins and rouens. 60 eggs from metzer farms. they shipped in foam inserts which I love but they have to be sized right or the foam will squeeze the eggs to hard. 4 of the jumbo pekins broke. I received 70 guinea eggs all in tact and 1 peafowl egg from 24 was damaged but they were a bit close to each other. I also got some Ameraucana eggs that were smaller than the Silkie/Sizzles. 200 eggs 5 broken. not a bad day.

The 100 local eggs from Odyssey Farms are a bust. Its been 120F out there all week. I had a vendor ship me very small peafowl eggs. I contacted him. He mislabeled the packages. Somebody else is in for a shock when they hatch their jumbo swedish flower hens.

Well we had three eggs that had almost poped the top one we got out but the other two chicks that almost pipped out and died before they could finish pipping but we have about 7 or 8 eggs left from this Hatch that haven't done anything so in a few days ill float test them until then we will see and the one we got out looks tired but ill be watching and let you all know

here is my newest addition.. 50% hatch rate shipped eggs.. 11 Cochins 1 polish (not sure where I got that one) LOL... the other 12 were infertile, so I guess you could say I had 100% of fertile eggs
