I lost my first chicken yesterday. My 19 week old Cornish x pullet. It's been over 105 for almost a week now, and the heat got to her. I have fans and misters out, but she cuddled up in the garage, and got too hot.

. That's my first one that has died (unintentionally). I guess out of 100+ chicks and chickens I've had, it's not too bad. I've had full term eggs not hatch, but no actual chickens. I feel bad that I wasn't home to check on her.
Awww Liz! sorry, Can Cornish get that old without dying of something? They get heart disease I thought that's why you need to process before 12 weeks. Liz you know more about that than I, but I am so sorry!

Ok we candled the other 30 eggs last night lots of movement and vains we only had to pull 3 so I'm very happy about that the three where clear so I knew nothing had grown in there so I'm hopefull and happy fourth to those who celebrate it
awesome! Happy 4th!

VERY busy day yesterday! I had three serama hatch, all cream and white. I processed 14 bobs and cots quail, Sold every puppy but one and the pups are only 1 week old, AND WONDERFUL homes! So one little girl remains until the other people get back to me! so excited! Made Sharpie shirts with the kids, cleaned brooders, Chad was over and brought his bator with a stink bomb explosion to clean and set all his pheasants and quail and I AGAIN set over a dozen serama, lockdown for the others is this week. I just cant hatch enough, or should I say the hens don't lay enough for all the people wanting chicks! And last night I had 3 sets of people come with downpayments and pick their pups, and took kids in pool for night swimming! Wonder what this day will hold!

ITS NOT RAINING TODAY!!!! HOW AWESOME IS THAT!

Generally you do process before 12 weeks, but I had 2 I was keeping for a meat bird project. I was keeping a close eye on their health, and was planning to process if they started having problems. They were both laying. I still have one left. After today the weather should be a little cooler (it's supposed to be 109). I know that they were going to die or be processed at some point (we already did the other 25), I just hope she didn't suffer.

Been a little busy and haven't been posting much, but I have been reading.

Candled my shipped Lanshan eggs last night to move them to lockdown. They are due tomorrow late afternoon. 8 made it to lockdown, but 1 is questionable. I have a pip already this morning!! It looks like I might finally get some chicks from shipped eggs! Last two tries were total busts. Crossing my fingers...

It sounds like you had a very good day! Well, most of it anyway. LOL I'm glad to hear your puppies found such good homes, but that was quick? Wow. And I'm glad to hear your chicks are selling so well! Any joy with the Brahma eggs yet?

And it IS raining here! Yay!
