First chick is out! It's s basque! So cute! Tomorrow is day 21. And I am not opening the incubator till they are all out and dry!!! And thanks for the tip of using those cloth chamois (sp) to raise humidity. Worked like a charm! Holding steady at 80%. Also got the big nest box installed today. It is an antique metal one with 10 nests in it. Putt up new perches and extended the run today as well. Also weeded my jungle of a garden. I am tired! Little one has strep ( she got it from me, I came home from vacation with it. Yuk!) she is finally in bed so I think I Am heading to bed as well!
Best wishes on the hatch!!! And hope you and your little one feel better soon!

Quote: idiots! I thought about it a lot and I am not sure I could shoot a dog for killing my chickens, but I have my entire critters fenced in and protected from stupid people and their dogs. Even from my own! lol But the dogs did get a wfs hen because they keep flying out! so that's why they are now in with the spitz.

Day 16 candling on my EE and SLW eggs

Started with 11 SLW eggs and now have 6 still developing

Started with 13 EE eggs and now have 8
developing

These were the eggs that came from CA to here in FL. The air cells are the wonkiest air cells I've ever had. Literally up at normal level then down half inch then back up and down three quarters inch then back up. I hope they can turn and make it out. I will be watching closely!

So I need to wait to up humidity until first internal pip, right? That might not be until late day 19 or early day 20? And should I try to lower temp a bit? I've got a still air LG. What's the consensus?
my guess is that your air cells are still too small since your running so humid, so if you can keep an eye out for pips do that and then add water/sponges.

I up humidity at lockdown if air cells look like they lost enough weight, I only wait till external pips if I have too small air cells. you gotta know what your eggs look like and take your best guess by those air cell images if your not weighing.

I outlined the CRAZY air cells and will post pics when I get to work. My temp and humidity have been 102 and 35 since last week.

Should I keep at 102 or decrease a bit? What day do I decrease temp? I'm going to try upping humidity late Day 19 as I've pretty consistently had first external pips on Day 20. Or were you talking internal pips?

I'm glad I am getting this many to lockdown, now need to perfect hatch in the dinosaur of an LG!!!!! ;)

dont change temp on your bator. if it is holding steady leave it. If after they hatch and look like they are a little too hot then lower temp.

I would hate shooting a dog because the owner was irresponsible but I would. I have way too much time and money invested in my chickens. I have 2 dogs that I have worked hard to train to not chase or eat chickens. One I trust since he is a chicken sized meal and more scared of them and the other I trust off of a chain when I am out but wont leave her unsupervised.
