You can't trust everyone, sadly, even friends. People are going to what they're going to do.

I'm sure it's tempting, but better to leave it and I really hope they go to a good home this time. A "forever home".

Sigh...........Most of my animals get forever homes. (ITS MY HOUSE) However, in the last three years we have given away two dogs, two horses and one cat. We gave the cat away 3 years ago and my wife and daughter still cry sometimes over it. One of the dogs was to aggressive around other dogs and we didn't want anything to happen when the baby comes. The other dog was from a previous marriage and was a constant reminder to my wife so I let her go. He belonged to my son who went to heaven so it was hard for me to let her go too. The horses went to my wifes mom and are spoiled rotten. Thank goodness, we don't have a problem with selling chickens. If we had just a few it would be different. But we have a couple hundred. I do have my favorites and all the geese and ducks will never leave. I doubt the turkeys will either. Several of the chickens are special too. Sigh....................I spend a whole lot more money on birds and animals than I will ever recoup.

I understand where you guys are coming from and very sorry for your losses me I'm a farm girl I have a honest view of creagslist or any othe what we give our animals away or sell them.my chickens I love very much but some day some of them will end up on my table I'm very thankfull for thair sacrifice for my family and when they are sold or given away the most I can hope is that they are taken for pets, egg/ chick production ,or humanly taken for food and not hurt or tortured I do my best to find homes that meet these critirea and that's it

I am dividing my extras between family members who want them for eggs as well. I am also going to give a few to a new BYCer in my area. I won't sell or give away on Craigslist.

i have to offload the byproduct of incubating somehow
Or you could just incubate less

most of us have had to give away what we thought were forever pets or livestock.

if someone is "flipping" your birds so to speak, either their circumstances changed or you sold them too cheap.

I needed to re-home the 2 cockerels and there was a nice man interested in them. He fell in love with them and I told him that if he promised them a good forever home, he could have them for free. Then I threw in a pullet for $5. I don't usually make deals like this, but I needed the cockerels gone and he seemed like a very nice man. Now it's 1 month later and they are all being sold for $20. It's out of my hands. When I questioned him, he said that he changed his mind. I guess it happens, but it still bothers me. I definitely wouldn't have let them go for so cheap if I would have known.

I've thought about it, and I'm over it. There's nothing I can do. I've sold over 50 grown birds this spring, and so far I have found 7 of them being re-sold. I will simply be more cautious with craigslist and I'll probably increase my prices.
