oh shoot! I woulda brung the neighborhood!Well, I had an interesting day so far. I went to give the chickens some treats, saw their water bowls were low, so I went out again, collected water, back to the coop, topped up the bowls, chatted with them for a minute and went out again. The door is sticky to open and close and it usually takes me a few seconds every time, so in total I spent a good minute outside that door... I noticed a movement on the ground just as had the door shut the last time. It was a Boomslang and it was not even 2 feet from my bare feet and rapidly moving away, so I'd rather not know how close it was to me before it started movingAnd when I think back, I was standing outside that door 3 times... My guardian angel was with me today, that's for sure.![]()
I ran to call DH who helped me look for it but we couldn't find it anywhere. Still haven't, the gardener's been looking also. It just disappeared. I would feel so much better knowing that snake is far from me and mine. I really like snakes, but these guys are so dangerous, I'd rather not have them anywhere our house, my family or my chickens!
I'm so relieved that first of all it didn't bite me and secondly I saw it before it got into the chickens' house. I used to leave the door open a crack for ventilation, with a window open on the opposite side. It would've had no problem going into the coop.
oh Doug! I pray for your good health and the most perfect birth as well!Hello everyone. Ive been very very sick for several weeks. I cant remember if I told it on here. I have a prostate infection that I am just finishing my 3rd round of antibiotics for. I have a bulging disc in my back that I am finishing my 2nd round of steroids for. My wife is due Friday. I finally went to work a few hours Thursday and Friday. I still have a long way to go with my back. Several months of taking it easy and not lifting. I still have to have more tests because my PSA was very high and I am going to have a biopsy to see if I have cancer. Im going to try to go back to work this week and I could use everyones prayers.
Now. Ive lost 20 of my 3 month old chickens over the last few days. I lost 10 yesterday. Of course they are my prized BLRW's It seems everytime I get them this old they start dying. Once they get older then the only way I lose one is because I have a hawk that's the size of a tom turkey. Im sure its coccid and I must have the disease in my soil or something. Im not going to raise any more chicks. Ill sell all my equipment next spring when the prices are high. I will probably sell most of the chickens that are left at that time and I have 7 or 8 chicken tractors that I will sell. I still have probably a hundred birds total but the Hawks have taken several of my best birds. A buddy watched this particular hawk dive down and take a full grown chicken. Anyway. Thanks for including me in your prayers.
Ill continue to check in from time to time. God Bless everyone.

Hey Sally, good to see youHow are you?![]()
Grr... So mad at my puppy right now.
So I'm sitting in a room, putting the new cage together for the guinea pigs, and all of a sudden, I hear screaming:
QUACKKKK
QUUUUUAAAACCCCCKKKK!!
So I ran outside as soon as I heard Daffy, a little Mallard duck.
And my dog was carrying Daffy in her mouth! I immediately ran and made Annabelle let go of her. She seemed okay, but then I looked down at my arm, covered in blood... and lots of it.![]()
That dog bit BOTH of Daffy's wings! So we were sitting there, applying pressure to her wings with some old cloth, with my little sisters all crowded around me petting her.
When the bleeding slowed down, we put her back with Donald, a Mallard drake. Fingers crossed she'll be okay tonight.
