OMG! I am so sorry!!! Where is the source of infection do you think? Do you think there is anyway to remove the source so that this won't be a constant battle with quail for you?We hatched 112 quail from three different suppliers. All Coturnix and basically equal numbers of Texas A&M, jumbo and Pharaoh.
At day 5 they started dying. 5-15 a day. I thought they were drowning at first. That cost me a couple of day and about 30 chicks. By the time we got the medications right we were down to 25. After 5 days of antibiotics we stopped treatment but the problem came back.
Tragic but lessons learned. The best treatment is bacitracin. I will medicate their feed with the next hatch.

The source is probably wild birds.OMG! I am so sorry!!! Where is the source of infection do you think? Do you think there is anyway to remove the source so that this won't be a constant battle with quail for you?
i lost 5 chukar as well. the chickens are ok but have just been treated with lice powder.Congrats Doug! Awesome Blessing she is!
Oz, never heard of that, that's a huge loss in a short time. Interesting read. Have the chickens or turks been effected?
My littlest growouts have cocci and they are already on medicated starter, so I started adding the Di-Methox and they seem better.
Sorry I haven't been on much lately. If I have a free moment its usually with a child in arm and bottle in one hand and that leaves one hand, and I have been using it to play farm hero saga on FB no typing or thinking involved. I think most are on FB with me now. if not pm me.
or move..........Winter is coming.... I found ice that was 1/2 inch thick in the duck pool this morning. All the water dishes froze, but thankfully the ice was thin enough for most of the birds to peck through.
I guess I finally need to order those new heated water dishes.

True, but that's not going to happen.
I'm dreading winter barn chores with ducks and geese. Soon we will shut off the barn well and I'll be hauling gallon jugs filled with water back and forth. Ducks and Geese go through a LOT of water.
We'll see how long my duckies last.![]()
