I was at a poultry show yesterday. I told myself I wouldn't buy anything, but I put cages in the back of my car just in case.

I bought a nice pair of black cochin bantams which was great, but someone how I was also talked into buying a trio of butterscotch call ducks. They're adorable, but why did I just buy more ducks before winter?

duck poop - how fun!!!

I just had to share as I think its so cute :) I have a CCL pullet who is only about 2 months old, but she has taken it upon herself to be the nanny to all the baby chicks in the outside brooder. She is so dang sweet. I have a little pop door for them so they can come out and play when they are ready. She'd already been moved out to the big kid play pen but moved herself back into the brooder some time ago. She goes and mothers all the little ones. They sit all over her back and she snuggles them under her wings. It is really the sweetest thing. No matter what she ends up looking like she will always have a home here as a little nurse maid, LOL! I've never seen anything like it. She occasionally goes out and explores a bit but not for long. And when she comes back I swear they jump for joy. She will lay still for them while they all pretend to groom her and she will pluck little bits of this and that out of their feathers. It really warms my heart. I am betting she is going to be like permanently broody once she reaches maturity, LOL! Has anyone else ever had one like this?

That's wonderful news! I was hoping they would regrow them. Their beaks may end up looking a bit odd, but as long as they have them...

Someone told me I've got what you guys call "production reds" I'm thrilled to bits with them. I've got 2 confirmed cockerels, one's my avatar pic. Here's some more:

That is so sweet! I've had one or two pullets do that with chicks, mother them like that, but not to the extend that yours is doing it. Take some pics for us, so we can see?

I must stop yakking now. One last thing, to continue with the "ghosty" theme, one of the kittens crawled under the fitted kitchen cupboards this morning and came out wearing a mask of cobwebs:

Hmm, keeping with the spirit of Halloween? I just remembered it's that time of the year again. Sadly it's not big here, in SA.

ok I give up, I cannot quote or anything, have done all the changes on my laptop. anyway Good luck with all the testing this week, how long until results?

Sumi I like the chickies!

the cat is hilarious!!

oz how are you and Mrs doing?

I have a serama still sitting on a bunch of eggs, I had to move her so she would be alone and I thought she wouldn't sit back on them so I added another broody and she went running on her eggs!! LOL mission accomplished, lets hope this hen is a better momma than all the other 6 I have tried!
