The other 7 chicks are doing very well.

ETA: Hatched about 20 minutes ago. What a happy-go-lucky chick this one! Cheep-cheep "I'm happy!" sounds all the way and POP out of the egg, it laid flat on it's back for a few seconds and cheep-cheep happy sounds again.

Brian, it needed done, I wanted to do it but knew about all this, my intentions are to work through all of it and attempt to help others that wish to do the same. And I will have my CPT license so I can help in more than just paperwork and inspections.

Hear that Wingstone? When your ready you know where to find me even if its building them breeding pens!
I have no intention of building little breeding pens, I like my large hodge podge of breeds all running together......I did however go buy a couple of those square chainlink dog kennels, I bought 2 but we only set 1 up so far....I have this inside the main run for now, it is working for integrating young birds, seems to go pretty good...will make a good breeding pen also....

I am not gonna try for NPIP, I do not ship that often, we have been looking more into the dare I say meat end of things just as many obstacles so far........I will however still like to have my birds tested a few times each year just for my own records and sanity.

I found one of my best silver laced cochin bantam hens lying in the coop motionless yesterday. I brought her inside to warm up and she slowly perked up, but her feathers wouldn't dry, so I gave her a bath this morning.

You know how I've been dealing with a bad mite infestation? Well it's not over. Nothing I try is working. As I gave her a bath, I came across thousands of mites.

I felt crawly afterwards, but I figured it was just my imagination. I started feeling them on my face, but I still thought it was just my imagination. Then I looked into the mirror. Ugg! They were on my face! At least 5 of them! Then I looked at my arms... sure enough, there they were. I hate mites.

Have you tried using mote strips? My NPIP tester told me about them, we were talking about another person having a major mite outbreak and nothing they were doing worked, they bathed and dusted all the birds, cleaned coop and hung the mite strips in front of nesting boxes and pop door, they haven't see a mite since, I bought some as a precautionary measure, as the stupid wild birds keep squeezing through my 1 inch fencing around my run.

No I haven't. I may have to try them.

I'm about ready to bathe every bird, apply ivermectin pour on, dust with permethrin, and then spray them. Over kill? Well nothing else is working...

Of course, bathing and blow drying every single bird would take way too long... I'm so sick of mites and I'm sure my birds are too.

Cochins, have you tried sevin dust? I use Karbadust here, which is the same thing and it works! One application on the chickens, then mix some with water and spray the coop down. No more bugs.

I haven't. I guess I'll try it. I'd be willing to try just about anything at this point. This problem has been going on for months.
