mine aren't laying the greatest at the moment but i would love to help you along. i have heritage RIR, Black australorps, dark cornish (meaties). i have replacements growing for NHR, jersey giants, dominiques, rhodebars. heritage barred rocks when i go pick them up, but they probably wont lay until the end of january.

i do have lemon cuckoo orps, russian orloffs, white rocks, sl wyandottes, and sometimes buckeyes.

i also have a so so collection of old english game bantams if your interested.

at the moment i can only send what is laying of course, but i would love to help you get your flock going again.

im finding several complaints of problems in dogs and cats, but it all appears to be an older version with a different active ingredient. i havent gotten to do alot of research yet, but it is considered a remotely safe poison, class 5 on the MSDS. the manufacturer does recommend that if you use it often; or handle animals that have had it used on them often, to wear impervious gloves.

im 99% sure that it goes through the blood stream too, and should have around a 45 day egg withdraw rate (45 days is my opinion, i am not an expert and will not take "blame" for following this advice). i cant really say if it is more dangerous or safer than ivomec.

the older versions were toxic to birds, not sure about this new chemical. occasionally a company will change the name of a chemical to avoid the stop of production orders, this doesnt seem to be the case now.

from their MSDS:
"The active ingredient Fipronil, is a phenylpyrazole that disrupts normal nerve
function by blocking GABA-gated chloride channels. The action is selectively toxic to
insects. Methoprene is of low toxicity with an NOEL rat is 250 mg/kg/day. "

ok, im hoping someone else can help with this part: i feel like blocking certain chloride channels may affect embryo development, and fertility overall - but i admit it is over my head.

PETA hates it, and appears to refuse to endorse it. they will typically only endorse something that is geared to killing one parasite. my belief is kill all the parasites with as few doses of a low level poison as needed. it just seems like adding the time of using different poisons to cure different problems will be hard on the animal. not to mention a (in the long run) more prolonged exposure to poisons - because you shouldnt use more than one poison at a time.

it is slightly acidic, and may effect feathers/skin on the chicken. it is also possible (but unlikely) for nervous issues to develop in cats and dogs - so im assuming that holds true for chickens.

ill let you know as i learn more.

I used it on birds 2 months - 7 years old. I've only seen improvements in their performance (the mites were really bringing them down).

I might not continue using it, but for now I'm very thankful that the mites and lice are gone.

I used it 1 month ago, so according to your recommendation I should wait another 15 days before eating the eggs. That's fine with me, but just curious, how did you come up with that number?

Thanks for sharing the information. I haven't had the time to really research anything lately...

the MSDS i read said it was intended for 30 days of treatment. typically you can add half again as much time for it to be out of their system. if you feed your chickens their own eggs you should double the time or 60 days, as you are potentially feeding the poison back to them. this information did not come from the FDA or USDA, so use your own judgement.
