Sally,
My brahma hatch is now complete. Started with the 30 eggs, 20 went into lockdown, and 3 of them I wasn't sure of. Hatched 14 out of the 20!! I checked the last 6 eggs in the bator. All 6 appear to have been quitters. Haven't opened them up, but when I candled, they look like they are not formed and are at about day11+? Wonder why I had no trouble candling them now, and on day 18 they just looked dark. If they are quitters, do they just "liquify" again? I can still see dark blobs that look like they are disentagrading, into the surrounding liquid.
So I have 4 light, 4 gold laced, 4 partridge, and 2 buff/partridge brahma chicks. None of the darks hatched.
I wanted the darks the most of course. I had to assist 2 of the chicks out. One pipped and zipped and couldn't push himself out. The other looked like the membrane was too dry and stuck to him. They are both doing well. Next dilemma, I have more eggs coming the beginning of next week, do I get more dark, and buffs because they didn't hatch as well? Decisions, decisions!! I ordered Welsummers and americauna eggs from byc sellers this time.
So I think the next hatch I will keep the humidity up at 35-40%. I think my chicks might have gotten just a little too dry this time. The egg that lost 17.4% hatched without any problems. None of my saddle shaped air cells made it.
When is your next hatch due? Best of luck on your hatch as well. What are WFBS, and CCL? What kinds of brahma chicks are you hatching?
These are pics of some of my brahma babies!
