Right. It was saddle shaped when I got it so I put it big end up. But now it's fully attached to the side. How should I incubate it?

I've always been told to incubate duck eggs on their sides, however my egg Turner is supposed to work for duck eggs, and they would be pointy end down. Could you lay it on its side? I wonder what the heck happened!

I have no idea. And all my eggs are in a carton big side up because they were shipped.

NestingHillsSC, do you have any idea what would cause a chick to be fully developed and ready to hatch but not of soaked up the yolk sac and end up dying? It blows my mind and scares me all of the things that can go wrong at the last minute after you've done every thing right for 21 days (an excruciating wait). I think I'm on day 10 of my first batch ever and wondering whatever possessed me to think I could do this! Sorry you lost your babies.

Quote: Its going to be hard for it to hatch because it wont get into the normal position. It could do it all itself though, I have seen it a few times with a wacked air cell. I would keep it in the turner and carry on the way you are. little end down. you may end up having to attempt an assist, but again he could be able to pip. No panic yet! he has a chance! looks like a nice embryo

Tony this chick you speak of came out of the shell unassisted? I have only seen one come out on its own with a broken sack. We do see this alot with assists and then the chick is released way too soon and hasnt had its time to rest and absorb the 12/24 hours after it externally pips. I have heard that high heat can also cause yolk issues. you know the break out anaylsis links are in the 101 article.

sonoralinda! dont panic, you can only read and re read to make sure you do what needs done to the best of your ability! This is to be fun and such an amazing process! try to enjoy and not stress!

No turner just an egg carton that gets one side elevated and then the other. Could it just externally pip and go from there? In gonna just keep y'all updated. Im still worried about it. What happened? And wouldn't the air cell expanding squish the duckling?
