Thanks guys.

I'm so upset and frustrated. So many beautiful babies are now gone.

Never again will I rely on only 1 heat lamp.

This is why I had my baby video monitor hooked up when they were brooded outside, I was so paranoid of that, so sad coch!!

We had an excellent hatch of mutt eggs and ccl

But most are BOYS!!! How does gender get chosen and when? should I replace my roos?

I'm pretty sure gender is 50/50 and not dependent on any factors other than the sex genes donated by both parents... So, the more you hatch the closer to 50/50 you should get!

I hatch tons, and I keep getting 80% if not more males of CCL!

Bad luck?!?

I haven't done any in depth reading when it comes to chicken reproduction and distribution of dna from the parents, but I haven't read anything indicating that it is anything but random. Maybe I'm wrong??

I was just told its the hens decision.... I read alot of info on this but I cant pull it out of memory right now, will have to search my bookmarks again

I just dont understand why I have such a hard time with this brain of mine, its getting seriously frustrating!

I think that unlike humans, sex is based on which sex gene the hen "donates" to her embryo. In humans, males are xy so sex is determined if they "donate" an x or y gamete (while women are xx). If the embryo get a y from the father, it will be male, and x it will be female. In chicken the hen is zx (heterozygous) or something like that, while the rooster is zz (homozygous). Complete opposite of mammals!
