I'm going to ask here since I'm not sure where else to ask. I have some eggs laying down and some in cartons that get tilted 45* at a time in my still air LG and I have temps at 102* on to of the highest eggs but it's only 98* on to of the eggs laying down. What do I do? I think that's why my Easter HAL eggs are behind...

lay them all down is the short answer. Still air bators should be set (in most instances) at 99.5 degrees when measured at the tippy tippy top of the eggs with the eggs laying on their side.

Of course that means only one layer of eggs at a time. The fact that others have success yet violate the rules of incubation is more a testimony to the toughness of a chicken and their will to live than anything else.

this unnumbered is incorrect. If your temperature is only 99.5 at the top of the eggs, the whole egg would not be within the optimal incubation range.
101-102 is what's recommended. I guess you could lay them all down...or raise up the eggs that are already laying down?

Use the top of an egg carton (upside down, so it will prevent the eggs from rolling off) on top of a wood block or book or something?

ETA every time I cut a carton to use for incubating eggs, I had always put them to the side KNOWING they would someday have a purpose....I guess this is that day!

I figured this is why you had them upright

leave the egg carton flat and do your best to HAND TILT each egg in a carton, you need to weigh pros and cons, under heat and over heat is worse than malpositions from turning IN MOST CASES

Now these are small silky eggs but I have done this plenty with larger eggs, just have to pull them up more, and turn as gentle as possible

See? I may take a carton and lay them on their sides on it.

This is one of my Easter HAL eggs on day 19. Yes I just said day 19... Here is a link to the album with hopefully a video of me turning that egg. You can see the baby moving in it. http://s1060.photobucket.com/user/foxvalleyfarm11/library/Eggs

So I laid most of them down. Only the 3 or 4 with the worse air cells are now laying down. I've been working carefully to raise and now stabilize the temps. But I issue now is the ones in lockdown haven't been turned for days except the daily candling when I look from all angles. Should I be worried about that? Also what should my temps in my hatcher be? It's still air.
