Trying to quote and find you more info on still air, I will have to change that hatching 101 after I research all this. I have never had a still air either. You are using a probe inside a bag of water or something? your trying to get internal temps of an egg at that level I thawed out a booboo pack and folded it in half and its working great for internal temps or are you taking temps at top of the eggs laid sideways or upright?
I have a water wiggle and use it when I have room.

ok thanks, we dont have the dilutent in the fridge just the vaccine. I have to see what all we have in the puppies cabinet, we give our own vaccinations to them. well my husband is in charge of them.

he is detained in CA with his lovely wife, and he has abandoned me on the thread most times as have many others like you!

I can take a hint. I'll try to be more attentive to you my dear.

Oh Oz, how I've missed being contradicted (or is that contraindicated) by you. Its so refreshing. Just kidding.

I have to stand by my use of u100's, chickie skin is so delicate, I like a more delicate needle. You're only injecting under the skin, you don't need to jam it in there, the U100's slide right in there like the skin isn't even there and there is little to no bruising.

I can definitely say that the diluent says on the bottle to store at room temp (as long as its below 80F), but the vaccine needs to be refrigerated until a little bit before use.

I make up my vaccine, load up all of my u100's and then either move the chicks from one box to another or use bands to indicate who's been done, but the box thing goes faster. I have to disagree with reusing needles. They dull so quickly, you cause more pain as each one is done.

The vet I used to work for would have us draw up a vaccine with one needle and then toss that needle so that she could administer the vac with a fresh, sharp needle. That's how quickly they dull. I will reuse them once, but I definitely alcohol the needle before reusing it. U100's are so cheap, its worth it to get as many as you need and only use them once.

Awesome now I can better check health of my flock!!

http://www.backyardpoultrymag.com/5-2/how_to_get_more_eggs/

A hen in good laying condition cannot be fat, she need not be too thin either; what we want is good condition a bit closer to thin than to fat. On four legged animals the spine would feel like soft, rounded hills. But how can we tell condition on poultry? Since poultry lay fat on differently than four legged animals, we have to look elsewhere as the spine is not the indicator we need. On poultry we need only examine the pelvic bones as indicators of body condition.

Measuring Condition...... see link above!

WHY TURNING IS IMPORTANT a pretty thorough read and there are tons of scholarly reads in abstracts and studies should you search them.

This link is in the hatching 101 and also a good read on storage and reasoning http://www.pasreform.com/academy/fr...atching-eggs/16-storage-of-hatching-eggs.html

I had posted a link a few weeks ago about storing eggs little end up to increase hatchability when stored for a longer period of time as well, and then the plastic bag study. I posted this in the hatchalong thread today as well.

Thank goodness for our new powerout alarm!! Wind is Terrible in the Mnts here!

IT WORKED and awoke us!!
We had generator running and bators and brooders back with power quickly as we had a previous run down of order since our last chaos with outage!
Not so sure how that would have ran if I had been by myself though

Temp at replug was 99.3 so I think it can take a tad longer loss.

GREAT CHEAP INVESTMENT!! Thanks @ozexpat

I am so happy!!

remember my dogs Killed my RIR!

And now I can say that the eggs I HRIR eggs I bought and had shipped are ALL PIPPED!! all 11 viable day 20 is today!
Initially 2 I had to chuck as they were cracked bottoms and rollers, and one I think was infertile or had internal damage from shipping, it too had a big moving air cell and never did anything so I cant call infertile because I didnt breakout to analyse.

I will have HRIR chicks tomorrow and maybe some late tonight if I am lucky!! YAY go chickies!!

Oh I pray I get all 11 and no issues!! If it pips its got great chance!

First of all. Wow sally, so many links, so much information, so little time.....

NPR just had a lady on talking about how humans are having a harder time doing "long reading" because they spend too much time reading internet blurbs. She said that we no longer have the patience to read complicated material. Maybe that's why the abstracts are giving you problems.

Why do you want to disinfect eggs for incubation? My ducks literally roll their eggs around in the mud and thoroughly coat them in mud before sitting on them and they've got about a 98% hatch rate.
