Our Hen was attempting to lay an egg, rudely interrupted by our nosy Legbar boys, myself and all the kids, I feel her pain HA HA HA

I was trying to catch up but getting through 100 messages on a phone with my Internet connection is a two day affair.

We are busy at CocoBeach. I have done AI on the three oldest gilts.

The chickens are doing well. I am now advertising on olx.com.ph and have lots of inquiries. I will be shipping 12 birds this week and at least that many next week.

I will also be building a 600 egg incubator.

Photos when I get an Internet connection.
What is a gilt? Also, what is olx.com.ph? Is that the web address or is there a longer one, I'd love to check it out.

Nice hen, pretty barring. I did my second to last candling yesterday and I was able to knock down the number of eggs in my incubator from 73 to 68. Did I mention that I have these in a hova bator with a turner. I've officially become that crazy lady who stacks eggs in her incubator.

I had had two eastern black turkey eggs sitting on one of the bottom tiers. They had come in the mail and they had really bad air cells. I had put them in there and I had completely forgotten about them thinking that they didn't really have much of a chance. My daughter and I were sitting here at the computer the other day when we heard a fierce chirping. One of them had hatched. It would have made a perfect escape like the pic that Kathy had posted that time except for the fact that there were two layers of eggs on top of it. Once I took them off, it popped right out without even having to break the umbilical cord, the inside of the egg looked perfect. The other egg had a perfectly formed poult but it was horribly malpositioned and had probably died a couple of days ago. I had the humidity at 36% for incubation and for hatch.

I WAS WRONG! I WILL ADMIT MY WRONG FOR SURE! I HAVE A PHEASANT EGG IN THAT WAS ROLLING END TO END, THIS EGG WAS IN ALREADY IN MY TRASH AND I HAD A THOUGHT AND FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME DECIDED TO SET IT IN THE BATOR UPRIGHT AND DO A UPRIGHT TWIST OF THE EGG, NOT TILT, AND I WILL BE DARNED THE THING IS ON DAY 14 HEALED AND GOING STRONG! MY BAD, VERY BAD, I NOW KNOW IT CAN BE DONE, WAS IT THE TWISTING? IDK BUT THE SUCKER IS ALIVE AND KICKING, I HAVE BEEN AMAZED SINCE I CANDLED FIRST TIME DAY 7! I DIDNT WANT TO BRING IT UP FOR FEAR IT WOULD PASS ON ME, SO I WAITED TO MAKE SURE ITS STRON

Sally, I'm not sure what you are talking about here. What do you mean when you say that it was rolling end to end and then what do you mean when you say that you set it upright and gave it a twist? Sorry, I hate coming in in the middle of a conversation, but its been so busy around here lately that I haven't had time to keep up with you guys.

EXACTLY that, let it up right, air cell up and just twisted instead of tilted, I will add that its well after day 14 and it died LMAO!!!

So much for the faith in it, blob of brown goop, stinky thing too ha ha ha

I swore I weighed in my silky eggs day 7, I must have forgot in all this madness!

Weights are all over the place, I DO NOT dip or spray them as my bators are jammed packed and I honestly dont have the time right now.

So today was day 14 for silky ducks, all that remained are still strong, and candle of the bottom shows that the veining is attempting to head to the bottom but still not filling the egg like my own eggs do.

IF I have to, I am going to try the small hole in the top of the egg after day 21 for that one that is only at 5% loss, but it still has time. I dont have an open bator or I would add the few with the most loss to it and give them some extra humidity, but I am stuffed, I think this is my last set and then I will sell eggs until its cooler again. Any suggestions for this? I assume some ppl ship in the summer, idk for sure.

If its super hot, I just add perishible, keep from heat on the box or I'll just send them "hold for pickup". I generally leave it up to the buyer: I let them know that its hot and that this may effect the viability of the eggs and they can choose to have cool packs (dollar store for bumps and bruises) or send the box "hold for pickup" at an extra cost to them.
