I found this person on Craigslist but then found them on BYC, however the order was technically off the CL ad. The seller is offering replacement chicks if I pay the shipping, which ordinarily would be a fine solution, except for the fact that the chicks that died were definitely a week old and at least one is close to 2 weeks old, could be more as it has full wing feathers (?). My understanding is that chicks should never be shipped at that age because they are not able to survive without food & water after the first 48 hrs or so following hatching (and there was no food or water in the box, nothing but shavings from what I could tell)...the box contained both day old up to 2 week old birds and it was the older ones that died. All of the youngest chicks are doing fine except for one of the Marans who has splayed legs and can't get around on his own at all (that one was a "bonus").Oh I dont know what to think! I would be so upset thats for sure!!! did u order from here or ebay? did you read their feedback as a seller? I would contact them immediately

If it was just a matter of bad luck, or happenstance, or PO mishandling, I would be fine splitting the burden of replacement/shipping new chicks, however I would NEVER have agreed to receiving chicks that age if I had known they would not be day-olds, and as a breeder I feel this person should have known better. This is obviously a case of negligence and while I'm not going to make a big stink over the $20 I've lost on the dead chicks, I really feel it does warrant some negative feedback...I wonder if I can still do that since this person is on BYC?? Does anyone know?
mine too- exactly the same.most of my hatch day was on day 20 and the last 2 on day 21.
Quote: Lessons learned uggggg.... My peeps are just about a week old and are ONLY starting to see some feathering on the tips of wings peeking out, your guess at ages seem correct. I so would love lavendar orphs!! Its BS that you pay for shipping! I dont know how the "feedback" works on here.... May I suggest that you find a local thread on here, as I have been told to go to "Pennsylvania Unite" thread with locals, I am finding great local people and more than you will imagine so you can bypass that shipping crud!!! Just a suggestion for next time... I would be so upset esp if my kids were their when I got the box!!!! uggggg
Thanks she is so sweet!! nothing yet still panting and nesting!!!!That is a truly gorgeous mama dog! Hugs to her from me.![]()
