The reason I was thinking it might have drowned is because there is fluid sort of pooling all around the tiny part of the beak that I can see, I could see the fluid pulsing when it first pipped and it seemed like maybe the nostrils were not clear of it, which is odd because I know they internally pip first and then break through the shell after they are already breathing, but I thought maybe since it pipped externally on the lower half of the egg maybe its in a weird position...

Im sure I'm overthinking it and should stop worrying, lol.

Oh no!!! I know that my last hatch was def my most stressful as well

How are things going?

No change unfortunately, I think I lost this one. Just trying not to be too upset, I have 9 more Blue Ameraucana in there so I'm sure at least a few will make it out successfully

I know this is all part and parcel, but it is tough when they get all the way to lockdown and then can't make it out of the egg. I left it in there so of course there is still a chance, but it doesn't look good.

My broody is sitting on one egg (other two didn't make it this far) and it's day 19 or 20. She still tends it as diligently as ever, but I don't hear peeping when I hold it up to my ear, and I'm worried sick. (I've read broodies hatch eggs sooner than incubators.) It's nerve-wracking! I feel for you!

Listen! you hear that? me either! no more chirping!

Halo finally has friends, not quite his itty bittyness, but as close as can be!

I have another pip! Pipped egg #1 i think is a goner...but when I stare at it I feel like it's possibly moving, but it could also be my imagination

Pip #2 has not yet broken through completely, just a small crack so far. Man this is excruciating!!!

No, they don't. 21 Days, same as an incubator. Hope you get some fluffy butts today!

Chicks can take up to 24 hours from pip to hatch. If they haven't hatched after 24 hours and there's a chance they won't make it I usually give them a little help. SS posted some links earlier on helping. Have a look. I know people so don't help, but I have lots of times with a very good success rate. Better than sitting watching your chick die :-(
Good luck!
