Already did the hatch~ the one that looked odd was the malpositioned one that pipped the wrong end : ( and drowned, What I had learned through BOTH these hatches is to WEIGH and mark candling, However both these hatches were NOT a typical senario thats for sure, but I am glad I got a good hatch after that bad halo batch! The trouble with the second bath Roxanne was that I didnt know the day they were on as they were givin to me and hen was already setting so it was a total guessing game from the get go!

Today is lockdown! Do you recommend leaving in the turner w/ turner off or laying them down in the bator? I can't remember!

My Halo fell out of the carton with half his shell on and it cracked all over the place and he wasnt ready so I would Lay like soooo... psss these are from all our notes....

Pics are showing the distinctive appearance of the air cell at 'dip down' and the correct position to place it in on the incubator floor. The egg is now out of balance and no longer needs turning. If the egg is placed on a smooth surface it will always roll to the same position which is the side with the greatest amount of air cell uppermost. This now becomes the top of the egg and a cross marked on the shell so the egg always remains in this position. The chick is now lying in its optimum position for hatching and will find maneuvering into its final hatching position easier to achieve. The sudden change in size and shape of the air cell is caused by the chick changing its position within the egg. again refer to https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/491013/goose-incubation-hatching-guide-completed

Don't forget to place a cloth, crinoline is best, on the screen floor of the incubator. This protects the navel, the place where the abdomen closes after surrounding the remains of the yolk, from injury. It also makes cleaning the incubator easier. The longer eggs are held before setting, the lower the fertility will be. Try to set eggs before they are ten days old. At three weeks, the fertility will drop to zero.http://urbanext.illinois.edu/eggs/res21-poorhatches.html

I did not have this, or paper towels.... I wonder if this is why the chick bled today, it stopped immediately after I patted corn starch on his butt. And cant even tell anything was wrong now!

Thanks! I was looking for your article but couldn't find it and I was speed reading the first page of this thread looking for this!

Think you can keep this thread alive for a few more months? LOL
Your puppies remind me so much of my pig. She went into labour 2 weeks before we expected her too (bought her already pregnant). The first piglet's skull didn't fuse, so I flew into such a panic I phoned both our town's vets. The first one came and euthanised the first piglet and the other one stayed the duration, holding my hand while my poor sow had her babies. He enjoyed it though!
