I have found that my local feed mill just started carrying the Red Lake Earth brand of DE with calcium Bentontite. It does not say Codex or food grade but it has on the label "for use in feeds as an anticaking agent." It is from Canada so I am not sure that the regulations are the same there that it has to say food grade. I have had it in their shavings for over a week now and have not noticed any changes in them, i.e. sneezing or such.

I looked up their site and checked the product safety sheet and it is definately food grade. The crystalline silica content (bad stuff) in their product is less than 1%. Food grade has to be less than 3% to be considered food grade by the FDA. Enjoy it!

Thanks! I was a little concerned because it did not have codex or food grade on it but it said it was for use in food. I feel better now since someone with some knowledge has looked at it!

Youre welcome. Whenever someone mentions a brand I have never heard of, I try to find out all I can to let them know if it is safe to use or not.

I received my first bag of DE yesterday! I ordered over the internet on Monday 7/6/8 and received it Friday 7/11/08. They shipped it the same day I ordered it according to the UPS tracking info!

It is Perma-Guard which made me EXTREMELY happy! I wasnt 100% sure it was when I ordered. I knew I needed food grade but didnt know about Perma-Guard until after ordering! I was so happy when I went back to their site and saw that it was Perma-Guard that I would be receiving in 7-9 days .... It took 5!

They are based in Norfolk, Nebraska. Shipping cost may be better for some of you but it cost more to ship than to buy the 50# bag! I live in Florida, but shipping is outrageous from anywhere to anywhere now a days.

Anyways, I am VERY happy with my nice white - Fossil Shell Flour!
