Nope, not mine.I can't help but wonder if and how your opinions might have changed at this point.
I would bet cash you also have a large flock. All I know is what I've done had been very effective. The results show when they get their daily love. The first time was soooo gross. Hundreds on my hand and thousands in my garage where my babies are.Nope, not mine.
14 birds.I would bet cash you also have a large flock.
x214 birds.
Size of flock doesn't really matter, DE doesn't kill mites or lice.
Um. Maybe you didn't get good stuff then. I am taking care of a mite problem right now with DE. I use it in the crevices of my coop and in a dust bath in combination of a neem oil cleaning. I have them cleared out of my main coop and baby coop. The jerks moved to my broody and so now I am controlling them with DE as I don't trust the neem oil with hatching eggs.. I sprayed the crevices of her coop and left a very thin layer of DE on the floor as well as sprinkling it on the ground outside her coop. I just stuck my hand under the broody and sure enough not even 1 mite after hundreds being on my hand yesterday.... I think the problem is that most of you have big flocks that between cost and time investment can't feasibly treat your entire flock that way. To me it is important. I can guarantee my chicks and birds are 100% organic in all treatments/feed from birth. As a bonus no corn/soy. Helpful selling points. Then again until my chosen ones begin to lay I have a flock of only 7 hens. It's a lot easier with a small flock.
It has been 2 weeks in my garage and main coop. No mites. As stated once a week for 3 weeks. It us not a one application done thing..First you need to determine if you have mites as @aart said in a previous post. I use a headlamp so I have both hands free to check over the birds after they roost. I have a lot of birds. I had a mite infestation. in one coop but then discovered some in another coop. I thought my birds were molting but they weren't getting their feathers back in. Upon closer inspection I discovered they were loaded with mites. I treated them with DE for a couple of weeks and they still were loaded with mites. I'm not a believer in DE anymore. It certainly didn't work here. I got some permethrin and sprayed the birds and all of the coops well, every crack and crevice, everywhere. After a couple of weeks the birds were looking better and even starting to get their feathers back in. I do 3 or 4 weekly treatments then stop. The mites can get a resistance to it. I do put poultry dust with permethrin in the nest boxes. The bonus is there is no egg withdrawal period and everything is available at TSC. I use a garden sprayer because I like the wand to get to hard to reach areas.
