Diatomaceous Earth use on chickens ?

Has anyone ever used diatomaceous earth for the control of fleas, lice or mites? I am wondering if you can use it to control pests on chickens?I know you can on dogs and cats, you can also spread it around your yard to control fleas and ticks,( I may use guinea's instead however for that) just wondering, I know you have to use food grade and it's really a cheap green way to control pests on dogs and cats!

I use DE on all my animals (cats, chickens, dogs, goats and sheep). I also place some in their feed. The only downside to this is it kills the good bugs as well. So, I have to be careful not to use it around my garden.
