Has anyone ever tried providing food grade diatomaceous earth for chickens to dust in? It is a great, non toxic insect killer and I wondered if there was any reason this would not be a good idea.

i too use DE. i even put it in chickens and dogs food....1/4 tsp. for small breed dogs. also mix with sand for japanese quail to dust and play in. on hot days, just dampen with water and watch the fun. chickens have a special corner in coop with dirt , sand and de. they have a blast,

Heard DE is really fine and can get in the chickens lungs and cause wheezing an breathing problems.
