Did a Turkey sneak in our nest or... (Pics)

One of our biggest Buff Orpingtons lays eggs 5-6 times a week that size, she has since she started laying. Hers are always huge double yolkers and we can hardly get them to fit in the large egg cartons, sometimes they are just too big to fit at all without leaving the lid open, so we have to put her eggs in a bowl. Lol, at first we were amazed but now it's expected. She did use to scream loudly when she laid them, but not so much anymore. They sure make a great egg sandwich!

mother o' chicks72 :

any of you with the huge eggs have a roo in with your girls? You should try hatching one of the giant eggs.

That would be cool....but what would happen with more than one yoke? Twins?

WOW.it must be the breed.Because my hen laid a huge egg last week.it messured at three inches.OUCH is right.

I have a red-star (called Star - original huh) and she is the sweetest chicken I have. She also has laid constantly since she started, and her starter eggs were as nice as her eggs are today.

She's the best and we love her.

Yea, our Red Star isn't really much to look at and doesn't even have a name yet but now she is our favorite hen because of how consistent and large her eggs are. Simply amazing. She is now 50/51 days laying eggs, only day she took off was Day 3 after her first 2 eggs. We are getting into winter and she still lays early every morning. Not to mention she is very calm/friendly and quiet. If you want a bunch of large brown eggs, my choice would be this breed for sure. We like having a mixed flock though, it's a lot of fun and that's the only reason we have them really.

Check out this video on Youtube - she successfully hatched twin chickens but I wouldn't at all recommend doing what she did in the video...(used a knife to peel away bits of the egg shell...
