I my husband saw it and kept waking me up through segments of it.. it was neat.. I think that he liked the fact that they were so self contained.. and then he made the comment well we have chickens.. Made me think that he was glad that we had em.. I am so glad for that.

This is very popular in Vermont as a concept- just not terribly practical. We have a "growing season" of about 3 months.

One of my priorities has been to get a hand pump for our well. Unfortunately, it is a deep well, and finding something that will work deep and not freeze up in the winter is a challenge. I haven't found a solution yet. But, with the horses, I hate being without water!

Hey valmom -- your other option is to get several large storage pressure tanks for your well. That way even if you lose power you will still have some pressurized water on hand. It is probably more expensive, but may be a better option for you. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing! I missed the episode but went online and watched this segment - truly amazing people. Something everyone should be striving for. I know that after watching I will be making my veggie garden a little bit bigger!​

yes I moved here 10 years ago and have been working on the yard/garden,,,,it was a junk yard when I moved here,,,,but boy do we have a lot of shade. I started a rain garden in the front to stop the massive run off of rain water,,,,and all the neighbors are dosing their lawns with chemicals

I have bad asthma and I am allergic to these chemicals but they are not illegal,,,,yet. Is there a book The Omnivoures Dillemna? I want to read that,,,anyone heard of that and what is in it?

This year I am setting up a rainwater catch system to use my rainwater for gardening ( the bill last year was outragouse)

I would like to do the graywater marsh thing but that might be too much to do this year,,,,,I better make a 6 foot fence or someone will be complaning about that too. Where are all the free thinkers in this town
