Did I do the right thing? Sure hoping so...

Aww! hes cute! keep him...
big_smile.png

I'd hate to see him put down at a shelter..

Maybe, can you just talk to the owners?? Tell them what he was up too..(trying to kill your birds). and then just be honest with them.. tell them that hes skinny and has a wound... and you are concerend about him...
And see what they say...

That dog is gorgeous!!! poor baby--your so sweet taing care of it-I hope those people get in trouble and get the other dogs taken!

Poor dog.I think the owner learn's SOME responsibilty soon. The dog probably isnt legal as far as shot's or tag maybe. That dog is probably just hungry. We have rehomed a few here that people just drop when they see all the critters here but We can't keep them all sadly. If the dog is in need of vet care and you decide to take him keep a record of your bills, food etc..I seriously doubt the owner will claim the dog but They need to learn if they d:hmmne of my neighbors a heeler killed 2 Sumatra roo's and he wrote me a check for the bird's without a problem but didnt bring my birds back but the dog is gone now TG.His other long time dog an Aussie stays here all time she is awesome around the birds and just an all around good livestock dog.I hope things work out for you and the dog as well.It would be better off for adoption than if it isnt getting fed and cared for.

If I did not have 7 already I would come pick the poor thing up. Poor baby. Let us know how things go. Maybe someone on here knows a good place for him. Somewhere far away from your neighbors. Yes I will admit I picked up a dog once that was in horrible horrible shape, it was in such need of a vet and food. No tags. Loaded his poor bum up and took him straight to the vet. He almost lost his leg. A new home would be great for him.

Can't keep him. We already have 6 dogs. 2 larger dogs, a really mentally slow lab, lol, and a cranky chow mix, and 4 small dogs, a Pomeranian that never stops barking (she was our most recent rescue), 2 chihuahuas, and a mini long haired doxie. There's just no food or money for another mouth to feed.

Get this, I called back the sheriff's department and the lady told me that they just leave messages for the dog catcher, they don't actually talk to her, and that she may show up tomorrow, or she may never come out at all! What kind of bull is that?! I don't have a car to take this dog and drop it off somewhere, and there are no shelters in my county anyway! What the heck?! Do they just assume it will blow over we'll fall in love with the dog and keep him? I am quite mad at the moment...

Don't question your actions. You did what was best for the dog. And your daughter is soooo pretty!

Someone dropped off a pit bull that is clearly nursing pups by our house. Ken took her to the Phelan tow yard (his work yard), gave her some food and water and named her Dropoff #8

How can people do these things to their animals?? This pit looked mean and almost knocked me down trying to lick me to death.

You did the right thing. I would have done the same. As for the wound , looks like perhaps a bite wound. Since other dogs grab the neck area. No excuse for any pet owner not to have a collar with proper id info. So you can easily say you had no idea who the dog belongs to. I would try to find a no kill shelter only because in my area they only get so much time to find a home and that is it. I've come home with more cats that way because I couldn't let them not have a life they deserve. What a adorable dog it is too. Like underdog says. " there is no such thing as a bad dog, only bad owners."

Probably. Animal abuse/neglect is a criminal offense in my neck of the woods and it's the police that arrest for it. I'd keep hounding the officers about it. Go on about the blatant neglect per the ribs showing (no food), the wound (no medical care), etc. And mention that there are other dogs and a child in this same neglectful household.

They bloody well should give a fig... if they don't there's something fundamentally wrong with that community.

YOU did your part as a citizen and an animal lover. Wish these folks were half the woman you are.

Well, I assume the people that own the dog came home, but they didn't come to ask why I had the dog in a pen in my front yard. I assume they don't want the dog. Idiots. Everything is expendable with them...
