So this little thing is supposed to be a Black Copper Marans pullet I picked up from TSC on 3/9 (these pics are from today). In the bottom pic, she is next to a Cuckoo Marans that was said to have arrived at Kahoots the same day (Saturday). Is this REALLY a BCM? Why is it so tiny compared to the Cuckoo? I thought they both came from Privett, but I can't find their listing for BCMs to know if they even sell feather legged BCMs. Any info or thoughts?

Hmm, yeah, I'm going to assume it is a (non-feathered, clearly) BCM. Just because they arrived on the same day might not necessarily mean they're the same age, but I dunno. :idunno
Or, maybe it's a bantam of some sort..

To clarify, the top 2 pics are close ups of the tiny one in the bottom pic.
It has feathers sprouting out the sides of its black (or slate, I don't know chicken color names, yet) legs but none on its yellow toes. As you can see, the larger cuckoo I show for comparison in the bottom pic has a dot on its head, but the smaller one that's supposed to be a Black Copper Marans does not (you can see its absence in the top right pic)... The post office isn't allowing poultry shipments as long as VNC is still in nearby counties, so it could be a very long time before I can get my replacement, if I really did get sold the wrong breed :(

Having bred both colors of Marans I see nothing to indicate that the smaller chick is not a Black Copper Marans. Different bloodlines develop at different rates. Just as a flower cannot choose where it blooms a chick can't help what traits it is genetically predisposition-ed to display. Children develop at different ages and rates. Chicks are the same. That very easily explains why the Black Copper Marans seems to be behind the Cuckoo Marans.
